Equipment: Jyn Erso (EADU) K-Mart Exclusive Action Figure Review

We have less than a month before one of the most dscn4407anticipated movies of the year (possibly decade), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives. The toys have been out for roughly a month and a half and some are more sought after than others; by that I mean the retailer exclusives. Personally, I hate retailer exclusives because usually the only way to score one is on the secondary market from the jackals that seem to have an inside track. The example that comes to mind are the Walmart exclusives, both last year’s Battlefront Trooper and this year’s Scarif Trooper. The stores and the website have never had them but one search on eBay will bring up tons. I actually saw a listing with the Scarif Trooper in the foreground and cases of figures in the background. Not all K-Mart exclusives are as hard to find such as these two.  Last year K-Mart offered Kylo Ren and Rey exclusives and this year the exclusive is Sergeant Jyn Erso. Jyn Erso is who we are reviewing here.

I would normally start a figure review by giving some background on the character the figure is based upon but because of the tight lid Disney is keeping on the plot we know very little the character of Jyn Erso. So far, everything we know about the character is that she is a rebel and her father designed the Death Star. She is strong willed and not very trusting of others. I think that is Jyn in a nutshell. Now enough character backstory; you are reading this for the review of the K-Mart Exclusive Jyn Erso figure.

Even before I took the figure out of the box it was love at first sight. I mean that sincerely. Hasbro really put some effort in the face sculpt and while not quite the spitting image of Felicity Jones it does look good. The clothes the figure is wearing are reminiscent of the uniforms  rebel troops wore to knock out the shield generator on Endor.

Jyn Erso comes with:

·        Removable Helmet

·        E-11 Blaster Rifle

·        Blaster Pistol

·        Lightsaber (more on that later)

·        Rock Shaped Stand

·        Breather Mask

This figure is extremely poseable. Being able to pose your figure is one of my favorite things about the 6 inch Black Series. The basic figures in the 3 ¾ line only have about 5 points of articulation; this Jyn figure has approximately 18 points. Sgt. Jyn Erso is poseable in:

·        Head (right, left and up and down)

·        Shoulders

·        Elbows

·        Wrists

·        Waist

·        Hips

·        Knee Joints (double)

·        Ankle

·        Foot (Right, Left, Up and Down)

I really can’t think of anything that I don’t like about this figure. Granted it might have been nice to be able to remove her poncho but it doesn’t detract from the coolness of this figure.  Speaking of the “coolness” of the figure she comes with what appears to be a lightsaber. I have a theory that the crystal necklace that Jyn’s mother gives one of the trailers is in fact a Kyber crystal. As you may or may not know Kyber crystals are used in the construction of lightsabers. I can’t say for sure that it is a lightsaber she has but you can judge for yourself in the photo gallery. Wow, that was a tangent.

Sgt. Jyn Erso is a K-Mart exclusive and retails for 24.99. I give this figure a 9/10. It is not perfect but I really think it can become my favorite in my collection. That is until I open my hover tank pilot.
