Transmissions: Review of Men at Work

Men at Work, a new show created by Breckin Meyer premiered Thursday May 24 on TBS. I was not impressed. The show started off with Lisa (Amy Smart) breaking up with the main character Milo (Danny Masterson). He is heartbroken and the first episode is about his buddies trying to cheer him up by finding someone to have meaningless sex with. The show is boring and the comedy is lacking.

Milo’s buddies are Gibbs (James Lesure), Tyler (Michael Cassidy), and Neal (Adam Busch). They all work for the same magazine which is run by Neal’s girlfriend’s father.

Adam Busch seems to be the worst out of the whole bunch in regards to becoming his character. He played Warren in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and did great in that part. This part as Neal is just not for him.

Danny Masterson seems to be playing Hyde from That 70’s Show again. His character gets high, does not dress well and has girl problems, all like Hyde. I think he needs to get out of the stoner role. He is a great actor but definitely needs to expand. He could definitely take note from his former That 70’s Show co-star Ashton Kutcher who has been in several dramas and comedies and did great in both.

James Lesure seems to fit into his role as Gibbs, a womanizer. Michael Cassidy plays a great Tyler, a good friend who seems to be rich. He has a maid that Gibbs has sex with in the very first episode, which proves both points.

I think way too many different situations were thrown into the first two episodes. It seemed like someone with ADHD wrote the script and kept jumping from story to story. If the show does not get better, this will be the first and last season of “Men at Work”.

Stars from BTVS and That 70’s Show

While watching “Men at Work”, I started to think about the actors that starred in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “That 70’s Show” that are now on television in different shows. The actors from these shows are all making their way back to television.

Danny Masterson is now on “Men at Work” and played Hyde on “That 70’s Show”. Mila Kunis played Jackie on “That 70’s Show” and is now the voice of Meg on “Family Guy”. Ashton Kutcher played Kelso on That 70’s Show and he is now on “Two and a Half Men”. He became the star of the show after Charlie Sheen had his incident.

Seth Green was on BTVS as Oz, the musician werewolf and he also played Mitch on “That 70’s Show”. He is now on Family Guy as the voice of Chris Griffin and he also voices characters on Robot Chicken. Sarah Michelle Gellar played Buffy on BTVS. She is starring in “Ringer” on Fox. David Boreanez played Angel on BTVS and had his own spin-off “Angel”. He is starring in “Bones” with Emily Deschanel. Alyson Hannigan is on “How I Met Your Mother.” She played Willow in BTVS. Adam Busch is on “Men at Work” and he played Warren on BTVS. Emma Caufield, who played Anya, the vengeance demon on BTVS, was recently in an episode of “Once Upon a Time”. Michelle Trachtenberg played Dawn on BTVS. She is currently in “Gossip Girl” and voices characters on “Robot Chicken”. Charisma Carpenter played Cordelia Chase on BTVS. She is currently on the show ‘The Lying Game”. Eliza Dushku is in “Leap Year” and she played Faith on BTVS. Juliet Landau who played Drusilla on BTVS is doing voice work on television. She is voicing characters on “Ben 10: Ultimate Alien”, “Green Lantern: The Animated Series”, “Thundercats” and was also in an episode of “Criminal Minds”.

I found this to be very interesting and it definitely proves that in Hollywood you get jobs because of who you know. Knowing Seth Green and David Boreanez seems to be especially lucrative! There are plenty of stars that guest star on their shows, including ones listed above.

I hope you enjoyed this adventure into my mind. This is what happens when I watch boring television shows!
