Equipment: Review Marvel Select Hawkeye Figure from Diamond Select Toys

Hawkeye, portrayed by Jeremy Renner, is an expert archer and trained assassin. This S.H.I.E.L.D. agent can keep his cool when the world is literally blowing apart all around him and if you are in his sights just kiss your ass goodbye. I never knew much about Hawkeye prior to his first big screen appearance in Thor, but after seeing him in action in The Avengers I am a fan. When I heard there was a figure coming out I was intrigued.

I first saw the Hawkeye figure from Diamond Select Toys’ Marvel Select line at this year’s Toy Fair and it was love at first site. I know that sounds like an exaggeration but he was one great looking figure. Unfortunately you can’t play with the toys at Toy Fair so I had to wait. The wait is finally over and before I even took him out of the package I knew that Hawkeye was going to be one of my favorite figures.

Let’s start with his appearance. Dressed in his black and purple uniform from the movie Hawkeye looks so much better than his comic book counterpart. The full purple outfit is a bit dated. As for the head sculpt, this figure looks just like Jeremy Renner. The amount of detail is amazing. Figures have come a long way since we were kids and it is safe to say that Diamond Select is leading the pack.

The Hawkeye figure stands approximately 7 inches tall and is the most poseable figure I have seen in a very long time. I don’t have to tell those of you who actually play with your figures that the more poseable the better. Each point of articulation adds to what you are able to do with the figure giving you an abundance of poses. Hawkeye has according to Diamond 16 points of articulation which is absolutely incredible. The way I counted them I came out with 26 so we are going with the higher number. I am really impressed with his double ankle joints which are similar to the ankles on Diamond Select Toys Red Skull figure that I recently reviewed.

Hawkeye comes with his signature bow and one single arrow as well as railing that is more backdrop than a stand. The bow is unstrung and the loose arrow doesn’t fit in his hand or the quiver on his back. Those aren’t even bad points but just something that needed mentioning. The railing appears to be part of the roadway near Grand Central Station in New York where the final battle in The Avengers takes place. The railing looks like it connects to another segment, possibly the backdrop from the Chitauri Soldier figure (coming soon).
