Zach Gilford (\u201cFriday Night Lights,\u201d \u201cThe Purge: Anarchy\u201d) \"USA<\/a><\/span>and Jonathan Cake (\u201cDesperate Housewives\u201d) have been cast in USA Network\u2019s original drama pilot STANISTAN.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>They join previously announced Jennifer Carpenter (\u201cDexter\u201d) who will play Public Affairs Officer Marcie Post.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gilford will play Phillip Guthrey, an Infrastructure Manager for USAID.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Phillip is Marcie\u2019s (Carpenter) closest friend in the country, and though he\u2019d like for their friendship to become something more, his unrequited love is not his only secret.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cake will take on the role of Greg Weir, a suave and fearless on-air foreign correspondent who is entangled in a complicated affair with Marcie, but his quest to uncover the real story in war torn STANISTAN will put him and his relationship in danger.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gilford, best known for his role as Matt Saracen in the critically acclaimed drama \u201cFriday Night Lights,\u201d was most recently seen starring in \u201cThe Purge: Anarchy\u201d for Universal, directed by James DeMonaco.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Recent feature credits include \u201cDevil\u2019s Due,\u201d directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and Jee Woon Kim\u2019s \u201cThe Last Stand\u201d opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Gilford was a series regular on \u201cThe Mob Doctor\u201d and can also be seen in the independent feature \u201cIn Our Nature\u201d with John Slattery, Gabrielle Union and Jena Malone as well as \u201cLong Time Gone\u201d alongside Virginia Madsen and Anthony LaPaglia.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s also starred in \u201cDare\u201d opposite Emmy Rossum, \u201cSuper\u201d opposite Ellen Page and Rainn Wilson and \u201cPost Grad\u201d opposite Alexis Bledel, Michael Keaton and Carol Burnett.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Gilford made his feature film debut starring in Larry Fessenden’s \u201cThe Last Winter\u201d which was nominated for a 2008 Gotham Award for \u201cBest Ensemble Cast.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>His past credits also include \u201cOff the Map,\u201d \u201cGrey\u2019s Anatomy,\u201d \u201cLaw & Order: SVU\u201d and \u201cRise: Blood Hunter\u201d opposite Lucy Liu.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Gilford is repped by William Morris Endeavor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cake has appeared in numerous roles on stage and on screen in the UK and the US.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>His recent film and television work includes \u201cDoll & Em,\u201d \u201cBrideshead Revisited,\u201d \u201cDesperate Housewives\u201d and \u201cLaw & Order.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>On stage Cake recently took on the title role in the Shakespeare Globe production of \u201cCoriolanus,\u201d and also starred in \u201cA Flea in Her Ear\u201d at the Old Vic, as Benedick in Theater for a New Audience\u2019s \u201cMuch Ado About Nothing\u201d in New York and as Mark Antony in \u201cAntony and Cleopatra\u201d at the Royal Shakespeare Company.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Cake is repped by Larry Taube at Principal and Brad Schenck at Paradigm.<\/span><\/p>\n

STANISTAN follows the staff at the American compound in the fictional country of STANISTAN, where State Department workers, covert CIA officers and journalists strike a delicate balance of danger and levity. From Universal Cable Productions, STANISTAN is written by Andy Parker, who also is supervising producer, with Richard Scarth, Mary Louise Vitelli and Maureen Ryan (\u201cProject Nim\u201d) serving as co-executive producers. Steve Scheffer and Michael Duggan are executive producing.<\/span><\/p>\n
