As someone who still spends a good amount of time in the 1980’s (I have several Patrick Nagel prints on my walls) I was impressed by a tiny box I recently received in the mail.

You are probably aware of the subscription services that send boxes of collectibles to your door. There seems to be a service for every geeky need out there and now there is a time machine that is delivered on a monthly basis. Retro Pop Box isn’t really a time machine but it is a box of memories that can transport you back to a bygone era.

Retro Pop Box calls itself “a present from your past” and it offers 3 decades of memories to choose from for their subscriptions. Your choices are the psychedelic 1960’s, the disco era that was the 1970’s or the decade of excess, the 1980’s. The sample that I received was for all 3 decades. The 1960’s and included a Duncan Yo-Yo and a set of Marvel Comics pins. I remember having a Duncan Yo-Yo when I was a kid (no I didn’t have it in 1960’s, I am not that old) and finding one in this box was cool. The offering from the 1970’s was a set of scratch and sniff stickers (corn scented) and an Evel Knievel t-shirt. Ok, so the stickers were a little more kitsch than I normally go for but the t-shirt did take me back to my early childhood. I had all of the Evel Knievel toys which I loved. The 1980s was set of Tetris magnets (my fridge is going to look awesome) and a Star Wars Pez dispenser. I usually associate Star Wars with 1977 but I am sure you can argue that there were 2 Star Wars movies in the 1980s, so I guess you would win.

I never had much of an interest in one of these subscription services but this one really does pique my interest because of the flashback aspect.
