Supporting cast includes Marisol Ramirez (TV\u2019s \u201cNCIS: Los Angeles\u201d), Sean Patrick Thomas (the \u201cBarbershop\u201d films, \u201cHalloween: Resurrection\u201d), Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen (\u201cSelfless\u201d) and newcomer Roman Christou.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Curse of La Llorona\u201d was written by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis (\u201cFive Feet Apart\u201d) and produced by Wan, Gary Dauberman and Emile Gladstone. Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Walter Hamada, Michelle Morrissey and Michael Clear served as executive producers. Chaves\u2019s creative behind-the-scenes team was led by director of photography Michael Burgess (\u201cAquaman\u201d), production designer Melanie Jones (\u201cInsidious: The Last Key\u201d), editor Peter Gvozdas (\u201cThe Purge\u201d) and costume designer Megan Spatz (\u201cSlice\u201d). Using the free Movies Anywhere app and website, consumers can access all their eligible movies by connecting their Movies Anywhere account with their participating digital retailer accounts.<br \/>\nFans can also own \u201cThe Curse of La Llorona\u201d via purchase from digital retailers beginning July 16.<\/p>\n<p>SYNOPSIS<\/p>\n<p>Set in 1973 Los Angeles, the film tells the story of Anna Tate-Garcia (Linda Cardellini), a social worker and widowed single mom struggling to balance the two roles while still coping with the loss of her husband.<\/p>\n<p>As a skeptic serving a city of believers, Anna has navigated a multitude of phantoms and superstitions in her job, usually finding personal demons lurking beneath. So when she\u2019s called to the home of Patricia Alvarez (Patricia Velasquez) and finds her two young sons locked in a closet, she interprets their terrified mother\u2019s desperate efforts to keep them locked away as a dangerous sign of abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Though Anna is determined to get Patricia the help she needs, her first concern is the safety of the children. But, because she is unaware of the very real danger they face, Anna has no idea what she\u2019s about to unleash \u2013 or the devastation it will cause \u2013 when she places a psychiatric hold on their mother and takes the kids into protective custody.<\/p>\n<p>In the deepest hours of the night, a haunting cry echoes through the corridors of the children\u2019s shelter where the two boys sleep\u2026 When their bodies are later pulled from the river, their distraught mother lays the blame at Anna\u2019s feet, and leaves her with an eerie warning: La Llorona has her children now\u2026 but Anna\u2019s own could be next.<\/p>\n<p>When darkness descends and her kids hear the weeping woman\u2019s ominous cries, Anna is forced to confront the reality of Patricia\u2019s claims: this legendary spirit is hunting children in modern-day Los Angeles\u2026and her own small kids are her prey.<\/p>\n<p>With nowhere else to turn, Anna puts her faith in Rafael Olvera (Raymond Cruz), a former priest-turned-curandero who has been preparing for this battle all his life.
