He was one of the best captains in Starfleet and he usually chose diplomacy over a charged phaser. Now Simon and Schuster have published a book taking a look at Picard’s insightfulness, titled appropriately, The Wisdom of Picard.

Before we go any further, this is not the time to get into a discussion of who the best captain was, so please don’t flood my inbox. Now where were we? Oh yes, the wisdom of Picard. Jean Luc Picard had a penchant for quoting Shakespeare and discussion before calling for all hands to battle stations. This is one of the things that set him apart from other high-ranking starship commanders. Even when dealing with infuriating species such as The Q, Picard never seemed to let his emotions get in the way.

The book, The Wisdom of Picard is filled with quotes from several sources: 178 episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, 10 episodes of the CBS All Access show, Picard and 4 theatrical releases. This 208 glossy paged book measures 6 x 0.8 x 6 inches and it gives credence to the phrase that, “Good things come in small packages.” The Wisdom of Picard is divided into 5 chapters with subjects that include diplomacy, humanity and exploration. This book has many profound statements, really a testament to the writers on the shows and movies. Star Trek: The Next Generation was, most of the time, a very well written show.

One of the great things about this book is if you ever need a quotation for a speech or the like you can use the quotes from this book as you would use quotes from a book of literature. I quote sci-fi show and movies all of time in the real world and usually these quotes go right over people’s heads. I find it kind of amusing.

The Wisdom of Picard is published by Adams Media and is edited by Chip Carter. The SRP of $15.99 USD and is available wherever you purchase your books.
