You may not know what I am talking about but in the days before the Playstation and the Wii there was a football game that would entertain for hours. There weren’t any video games systems in the late 1960’s/early 1970’s. Instead there was this game: a 2 foot long board with plastic players.

The metal game board that resembled a football field and plugged into the wall. The board vibrated sending the tiny football players all over the board to complete plays. The board that I had as a youth gave off a very loud hum along with the vibration. Maybe you had one of these gems with the plastic players on green stands and little foam footballs. If you didn’t have one here is your chance to get this nostalgic game of the past but with a modern upgrade.

The new version of this electronic football game from Tudor Games is 100% quieter and each of the players have a dial on their stands that helps you set the direction that they can travel in; giving you more control over your plays. There still is the one player that can pass so you can throw that Hail Mary and win the game. Aside from the players which come with the game you can purchase other figures to complete the experience. The other figures include the very important cheerleaders, coaches and referees to round out game day.

Electric football isn’t like a video game with patterns that can be memorized; each game has a level of unpredictability just like a real game. I had forgotten how cool this game was and it was great seeing it in action again. Part of me wished I could have taken one home with me but I was working. Do yourself a favor and pick one of these up for yourself and invite some friends over and kick it old school.

Check out this link to get the history of the electric football games: http://www.miggle.com/products/tudor/

There were hundreds of toys at this year’s Toy Fair and one of the things that caught my eye was something from my childhood, electric football.
