Smallville is a show that not only was ahead of its time, it set the stage for ALL superhero shows that have come since.  When you take quality writing and great acting, you have Smallville.  This is a show that also paid homage to those in the Superman universe that came before it and worked to set the stage for the next theatrical Superman to follow, which was Brandon Routh.
