If you ask my father, at the age of 3 I was able to recite the, “Space, the final frontier…” speech from memory. I don’t know if I believe the story but I do know I love Star Trek. I love the ships, the uniforms and of course the props. Star Trek has always had some cool looking props from the 1960s all the way up to present day; the designs have always been impressive. If you are a fan of Star Trek and/or a collector of prop replicas, you need to check out the Star Trek: The Next Generation Medical Scanner and Hypospray replica from Factory Entertainment.

I knew that Factory Entertainment puts out some quality products, but I wasn’t ready for just how impressive the Star Trek: TNG Medical Set Replica is; I was blown away. The replicas of the Scanner and Hypo Spray are reproductions of medical equipment used in the various Star Trek shows and movies set in the Next Generation era.

The Star Trek: TNG Medical Set Replica set consists of the scanner, the hypo and 3 vials that can be loaded into the hypo depending on what treatment you need to administer. The vials have a metallic end and will “click” into place when they connect with the magnet inside the handle of the hypo. I must say I really like the idea of using a magnetic connector, it is secure without being a laborious process to switch out vials. Whoever suggested that in the product meeting at Factory Entertainment needs a raise.

The hypo measures approximately 4.5 inches long and 1 inch wide and is composed of metal. The fact that the hypo is metal gives a “real feel” if that makes sense. The Star Trek: TNG Hypo has two different “hiss” sound effects when one of the buttons is depressed to simulate injection. One effect is for the standard injection and the other is a “wider” spray effect. The hypo takes LR44 batteries (included).

The other prop in this set is the Medical Scanner. This version is based on the scanner used during the second season of TNG and beyond. It can be seen in countless episodes of the various Treks. The scanner also has a sound effect (scanning noise) and lights up. The Medical Scanner measures approximately 2.5 inches long and, like the hypo from the set, is made of metal. The scanner also requires LR44 batteries for the light and sound effects (included).

The Star Trek: TNG Medical Replica Set comes in a wooden display box that holds both props, the filled vials and a metal plaque with the edition number. These 1:1 scaled props are just amazing reproductions. Although these are not toys, you will be tempted to use these in your next cosplay adventure. They truly do look like they came from Paramount’s prop department.

This limited edition set can be purchased directly from Factory Entertainment for $399.
