The agent winds up wounded and captured. This incident leads to the head of MI:6 and his right hand man Smiley being forced to retirement. After his former superior is found dead Smiley is recalled and takes on the task of finding the mole.

Not sure who he can trust, Smiley must gather evidence that could implicate one of his friends as the double agent. During his investigation Smiley finds that there is an operation in place where low level secrets are being leaked to the Soviets to get information in return. While most of the information that is being “leaked” is not crucial Smiley finds that the mole is using this operation to pass real information along.

A thinking man’s spy movie, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy does not have any car chases, high tech gadgets or other cliché fixtures most people expect from a spy film. This film takes a realistic approach to the world of espionage how it was back in the early 1970’s; years before the fall of Communist Russia. Though slow at times Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy draws you in and keeps you guessing as to the mole’s identity until the very end. I enjoyed Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and I would recommend it for spy fans everywhere.

Directed by Tomas Alfredson this movie was nominated for 3 Academy Awards including Best Actor, Gary Oldman. The stellar cast includes Oscar winner Colin Firth, Mark Strong (The Green Lantern), Tom Hardy (Star Trek: Nemesis) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Shelock).

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is available on DVD and Blu-ray with Ultraviolet copy which can be viewed anywhere.
