FIFTH SEASON Music and Lakeshore \"\"<\/a>Records released The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart\u2014Prime Video Original Series Soundtrack digitally last week on August 4.  The haunting electronic score is by avant New Classical composer Hania Rani.  The Amazon Original series starring Sigourney Weaver launched exclusively on Prime Video last Friday, August 4.<\/p>\n

Based on Holly Ringland\u2019s best-selling debut novel, the seven-part series tells the emotionally compelling story of Alice Hart. When Alice, aged 9, tragically loses her parents in a mysterious fire, she is taken to live with her grandmother June at Thornfield flower farm, where she learns that there are secrets within secrets about her and her family\u2019s past. Set against Australia\u2019s breath-taking natural landscape, and with native wildflowers and plants providing a way to express the inexpressible, this enthralling family drama spans decades. As she grows from her complicated past, Alice’s journey builds to an emotional climax when she finds herself fighting for her life against a man she loves.<\/p>\n

Rani notes: \u201cFor this score I decided to pick not only new instruments but also change the way they are recorded, especially piano. The score includes two string ensembles, different variations of drums, bass clarinet, vocals, synthesizers and keyboards. Everything we managed to record I edited and processed later in my studio, looking for the most peculiar and specific sounds that I could achieve. It was a mind-blowing process and I was really happy that the series is so dark and dramatic because finally I could also show this side of my artistic personality.\u201d<\/p>\n

    ABOUT HANIA RANI<\/p>\n

    Hania Rani is an award-winning pianist, composer and singer. Her debut album \u201cEsja\u201d, a beguiling collection of solo piano pieces on Gondwana Records was released to international acclaim in 2019. Her follow-up sophomore album, the expansive, cinematic, \u201cHome\u201d, was released in 2020 and finds Rani expanding her palate: adding vocals and subtle electronics to her music. When Hania reintroduced herself this spring with \u201cHello\u201d, the preliminary taster for her new album, \u201cGhosts\u201d, it most likely startled many who\u2019ve come to love her work. Otherworldly yet upbeat, its mischievous melody, eloquent Rhodes piano, sparkling synths and nimble rhythms offered little indication of the New Classical style.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Rani, who grew up in Gda\u0144sk, Poland and currently divides her time between Warsaw and Berlin, is probably still best known for Esja, its instrumental piano pieces swiftly and widely embraced during the pandemic for a palliative beauty which BBC Radio 4\u2019s Mark Coles described as \u201csublime and minimalist\u201d. Her Covid era \u201cLive from Studio S2\u2033 performance video has now clocked up almost 6 million views. Nonetheless, she\u2019s always embraced broad horizons, far broader than her strict, two-decade training as a pianist might initially suggest. Alongside her classical activities, most notably award-winning collaborations with cellist Dobrawa Czocher (released via Deutsche Grammophon), not to mention her first piano concerto, \u201cFor Josima\u201d, premiered this spring, she was for a while one half of Poland\u2019s respected alternative pop duo T\u0119skno.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    She\u2019s also worked with other media, releasing a \u2018highlights\u2019 reel, \u201cMusic for Film and Theatre\u201d, in 2021, and her scores include Piotr Domalewski\u2019s \u201cI Never Cry\u201d, winner of the 2020 Polish Film Festival\u2019s Best Score award, last year\u2019s \u201cVenice \u2013 Infinitely Avantgarde\u201dand coming later this year, Amazon\u2019s \u201cThe Lost Flowers of Alice Hart\u201d. In 2022, Hania was also asked by director Susanna Fanzun to score the documentary about the artist Alberto Giacometti.<\/p>\n

    Her interests extend, too, into the realms of art: last summer, for instance, visitors to Zodiak, the Warsaw Architecture Pavilion, are encouraged to enjoy \u201cRoom for Listening\u201d, a sound and spatial art installation, designed with architecture studio Zmir.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Hania played concerts across Europe, North America, Australia and Japan. She performed sold out shows in prestigious venues like NOSPR in Katowice, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Funkhaus in Berlin and The Roundhouse in London. In 2022 Hania was invited to perform recorded live shows for ARTE, KEXP and Cercle.<\/p>\n
