Hallmark has been producing Star Trek \"\"<\/a>Keepsake Ornaments since 1991 when they released the original U.S.S. Enterprise from the television series. At the time, in order to get the lights to work you needed to plug your ornament into your light string. Nowadays the Keepsake ornaments take watch batteries. I prefer the batteries; if you don\u2019t need an outside power source, your ships can be on display year-round.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Star Trek Keepsake Ornament is the U.S.S. Enterprise from the Second Season episode, \u201cWho Mourns for Adonis\u201d. In this episode, as the Enterprise approaches the M-Class planet, Pollux IV, a giant, green, glowing hand rises from the planet\u2019s surface. The Enterprise\u2019s attempts to flee prove unsuccessful and they find themselves in the grasp of some alien power. Kirk and company are then contacted by the \u201cowner\u201d of the hand who claims to be the Greek God, Apollo.<\/p>\n

This is not the only time Star Trek has alluded to a green hand. The green glowing hand is also referenced in Star Trek: Beyond (set in the Kelvin timeline) when discussing the disappearance of the U.S.S. Franklin. When discussing the Franklin and its captain Kirk asks Scotty how the ship wound up so far out in space. Scotty responds, \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of theories, sir\u2026Surrendered to the Romulans\u2026captured by a giant space hand\u2026\u201d I do like how the newer Star Trek paid homage to the original series.<\/p>\n

So this year\u2019s main Star Trek Hallmark Keepsake Ornament is called The Hand of Apollo. This ornament depicts the scene from \u201cWho Mourns for Adonis\u201d where Apollo\u2019s hand holds the U.S.S. Enterprise in orbit of Pollux IV. The ornament measures (from the Hallmark website) approx.: 3.88 x 1.96 x 5.57 (these are more exact than I measured out in the video) and is light weight.<\/p>\n
