The album also features a cover of The National’s “Green Gloves” by singer Monica Martin produced by Este and Christopher.

The 17-track album is available now, on digital platforms coinciding with the Searchlight Pictures’ film streaming now exclusively on Disney’s DTC platforms as an Original Film on Hulu in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ in all other territories.

Director Laura Chinn remarks on the score – Music is extremely important to me. I knew, with this film, that I wanted all the songs to be period accurate, from the early aughts, and Mary Ramos, our incredible music supervisor, was making amazingly nostalgic 2000’s playlists for us before we even started filming.

When Mary told me that Este Haim had read the script and was interested in composing the score, I leapt at the chance to meet her. I have been a huge fan of Haim’s for over a decade, and I knew Este and I were similar in age, both of us were coming of age in the early aughts. I listened to the other scores that she and her partner, Chris Stracey, had created for Maid and Cha Cha Real Smooth and fell in love with the emotion and energy behind their sound.

When Este and I first met, we immediately bonded over listening to the same music as teenagers (Devendra Banhart, My Morning Jacket, Erykah Badu) and I just instinctively knew she was the perfect composer for this film. She and Chris sent us tracks very early on, after they watched the first cut, and suddenly the film had its own musical language, they nailed the tone and wonderfully balanced real emotion with a lighthearted touch, never making the score emotionally manipulative or inauthentic.

We knew that The National’s Green Gloves was the only song that would work for the culmination of Doris’ story. Matt Berninger spoke about the lyrics in an interview: “It’s more about trying to remember someone and sort of be them—someone that you’ve lost your connection with (maybe because of a death)—so you reconnect with them by getting inside their clothes, watching their videos, getting in their bed. You’re actually recreating them somehow in order to know them better.” It’s an eerily perfect song for the movie but we wanted Este and Chris to cover it with a modern female singer, so Doris’ big moment could be underscored with female vocals and Monica Martin’s soothing voice felt like the exact right choice for Doris’ inner monologue.

ABOUT SUNCOAST

Inspired by the semi-autobiographical story of a teenager (Nico Parker) who, while caring for her brother along with her audacious mother (Laura Linney), strikes up an unlikely friendship with an eccentric activist (Woody Harrelson) who is protesting one of the most landmark medical cases of all time.

Track listing –

Doris & Max

Suncoast

Like Your Brother

Life At Suncoast

H.B.

Song for Paul

Home

She Didn’t Wake Up

Since I Was Five

Kristine & Max

Tonight

Memories

Most Important Night of Our Lives

Green Gloves*

Don’t Go

Keep On Keeping On

Light Years Away

*By Monica Martin

ABOUT ESTE HAIM

Este Haim is a GRAMMY® nominated musician, composer, actor, and writer. The compositions reflect his explorations into different sonic worlds through both organic and electronic instrumentation.

ABOUT MONICA MARTIN

Monica Martin is a Chicago-born singer-songwriter who grew up in rural Wisconsin, mostly waiting for Billie Holiday videos to load on back-country dial-up or making trips in a busted Geo Metro to watch punk shows in Milwaukee. Trained as a hairdresser, she didn’t have musical plans beyond joke singing harmonies over the radio. She fronted the acclaimed experimental-folk-pop sextet, PHOX, formed just outside Madison, Wisconsin. Eventually, Monica moved to LA because “Wisconsin is cold as f*ck”. She found herself a little periwinkle casita and is feeling freer than ever in the city of misfits. She’s recently touring as support for James Blake, Marcus Mumford, Nickel Creek and Lake Street Dive. Monica is presently at work on her first album, it’s going slowly.

ABOUT HOLLYWOOD RECORDS / DMG

Disney Music Group is home to Hollywood Records, Walt Disney Records, Disney Music Publishing, Buena Vista Records, and Disney Concerts. DMG releases music and film and television soundtracks from some of the largest movie franchises in the world – from Disney, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, Pixar, Searchlight Pictures, and 20th Century Films including the chart-topping albums “Encanto,” “Frozen 2,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the Oscar® and Grammy®-winning “Frozen,” the Grammy®-winning “Guardians of the Galaxy,” the Emmy®-winning music from “WandaVision” and “The Mandalorian,” the Oscar® and Grammy®-winning “Soul” score, plus the Oscar®-winning “Black Panther,” “Coco” and “Moana” soundtracks.
