Hollywood Records has released \"\"<\/a>\u201cWe Were the Lucky Ones Theme\u201d by Academy Award and Emmy-winning composer Rachel Portman from We Were the Lucky Ones (Original Soundtrack), available now, on digital platforms, coinciding with the premiere of the series on Hulu. The full soundtrack by Rachel Portman and Jon Ehrlich will be available on digital platforms on May 3.<\/p>\n

Rachel comments on the main theme, \u201cI spent quite a while writing the main title theme for We Were the Lucky Ones. I felt I had to know the story\u2019s material really well before writing it. I wanted it to be compelling, emotional, and full of longing whilst also honoring the hope as well as the loss in this inspiring story.<\/p>\n

The solo cello\u2019s rich voice seemed right for the protagonist in the theme while the piano and string accompaniment kept up momentum, moving the story forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

The full soundtrack for the score is out May 3.<\/p>\n

ABOUT THE SERIES<\/p>\n

Based on Georgia Hunter\u2019s New York Times bestselling novel, the television adaptation of \u201cWe Were the Lucky Ones\u201d is a limited series inspired by the incredible true story of one Jewish family separated at the start of WWII. The series follows them across continents as they do everything in their power to survive, and to reunite. \u201cWe Were the Lucky Ones\u201d demonstrates how in the face of the twentieth century\u2019s darkest moment, the human spirit can endure and even thrive. The series is a tribute to the triumph of hope and love against all odds.<\/p>\n

ABOUT RACHEL PORTMAN<\/p>\n

British composer Rachel Portman became the first woman composer to win an Academy Award, which she received for her work on EMMA. She is also the first woman composer to win a Primetime Emmy Award, for her work on BESSY. Rachel is currently collaborating with three-time Emmy nominated composer Jon Ehrlich on the Hulu Holocaust drama WE WERE THE LUCKY ONES.<\/p>\n

With over a hundred film scores, other credits include THE DUCHESS, OLIVER TWIST, ONE DAY, BELOVED, THE VOW, GODMOTHERED, LIFE IS SWEET, and THEIR FINEST.  Rachel also ventures into stage productions, like the musical LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE and an opera of THE LITTLE PRINCE for Houston Grand Opera.<\/p>\n

She has received two further Academy Nominations for THE CIDER HOUSE RULES and CHOCOLAT, which also earned her a Golden Globe Nomination.  In 2023 she received her second Primetime Emmy Award for JULIA.<\/p>\n

Beyond film, she’s composed for concerts and solo piano albums, such as \u201cAsk the River\u201d (2020), \u201cEden\u201d (2021), \u201cBeyond the Screen\u201d (2023) and \u201cTipping Points\u201d (2024).<\/p>\n

West Sussex-born Rachel Portman, a composer since age 14, studied music at the University of Oxford. Given an OBE in 2010, Rachel is an honorary fellow of Worcester College, Oxford, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Music.<\/p>\n
