\nGrassland<\/em> is a topical and riveting social justice drama about the criminal justice system and marijuana incarceration rates. <\/p>\n

\nThe narrative film, which is led by M\u00eda Maestro (The Motorcycle Diaries<\/em>), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time<\/em>), Jeff Kober (Sons of Anarchy<\/em>) and Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew<\/em>), is set in 2008 and explores both the economic recession and the inequities of incarceration rates of the era. The story follows Leo (Cabot-Conyers), an inquisitive and sensitive boy who puts his single mother\u2019s (Maestro) illegal marijuana business at risk when he befriends the new neighbors, a young white boy and his police officer grandfather (Kober).

\nNicita tells Indiewire: \u201cI felt truly invested in every cue, and that\u2019s really important because I think it\u2019s always going to yield the best results. As a creative,\u200athe end goal is to find those projects where you really feel truly connected to it, and I felt that the entire way through. It never felt like a job.\u201d
