Composer Cameron Moody, a rising voice in film and television music, has crafted a sweeping, emotionally resonant score for the new series, drawing on a lifetime of musical passion and a journey that began in Atlanta and led to the legendary scoring stages of Hollywood. All eight episodes of the limited series are available on Hulu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConducting is like lining up in front of a golf ball.&nbsp; It\u2019s peaceful.&nbsp; It\u2019s terrifying,\u201d Moody says.&nbsp; \u201cBut once you load up and swing and you hear the music come alive\u2026 there are very few things like it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Moody\u2019s path to \u201cWashington Black\u201d began with a childhood fascination with \u201cStar Wars\u201d and a relentless curiosity for film music. After a formative year at NYU\u2019s Screen Scoring program, a chance encounter with composer Michael Abels (\u201cGet Out,\u201d \u201cUs, Nope\u201d) led to a three-year apprenticeship that shaped Moody\u2019s professional foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was moonlighting as a composer while being a student during the day\u2026 it very quickly became unmanageable,\u201d he recalls. \u201cSo, I finished out that semester, dropped out, and spent the next three years as Michael\u2019s assistant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The score for \u201cWashington Black\u201d reflects the show\u2019s global journey from Barbados to the Artic and its emotional core. \u201cIf I had to describe the score in one word, it would be \u2018classic.\u2019 We wanted it to feel big and appropriate for the size of the story,\u201d Moody explains. \u201cThis is really a story about freedom and the lengths a person will go to achieve that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moody recorded the score at the historic Fox scoring stage, standing on the same podium once graced by legends like John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith. \u201cThat was something I dreamed of when I was a kid, and I got to do it,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With the Washington Black (Original Soundtrack), Cameron Moody has not only delivered a score of cinematic scope and emotional nuance, he\u2019s also announced himself as a bold new voice in screen music.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0ImlSbn43MU?si=lb8H2R8V8KNf3dIS\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ABOUT \u201cWASHINGTON BLACK\u201d:<\/p>\n<p>Based on the bestselling novel of the same name, \u201cWashington Black\u201d follows the 19th-century odyssey of George Washington \u201cWash\u201d Black, an eleven-year-old boy born on a Barbados sugar plantation, whose prodigious scientific mind sets him on a path of unexpected destiny.&nbsp; When a harrowing incident forces Wash to flee, he is thrust into a globe-spanning adventure that challenges and reshapes his understanding of family, freedom and love. His distinctive utilization of the symphony orchestra has given way to a varied resume, with project genres in film and television ranging from action and documentaries to romance and comedies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cameron is the composer of the upcoming Hulu original limited series Washington Black, created by Selwyn Seyfu Hinds and starring Sterling K. Brown, which premieres on Hulu on July 23rd.
