The composers also take inspiration from Depeche Mode’s 1987 song “Behind The Wheel” in both a slow and haunting version that showcases a ghostly muted choir as well as creating six more tracks that are menacing variations on the song. The XYZ film is back in theaters this weekend in a special double feature with Vincent Must Die.

Two parents receive a distressing late-night call from their teenage daughter, who has just accidentally hit a pedestrian. They jump in their car, racing to get there before anyone else stumbles across the scene. As they head deeper into the night, disturbing revelations threaten to tear the family apart. They soon realize they are not the only ones driving down Hallow Road.

Note Balfe and Adams: “Babak Anvari had a very clear and inspired vision for the film — he wanted the music to feel deeply textural and atmospheric. We explored this by recording solo woodwinds and transforming them into haunting, layered soundscapes that mirror the film’s tension and setting in the woods. Reimagining Depeche Mode’s ‘Behind the Wheel’ for the track titled ‘Come to Terms,’ on the soundtrack was a highlight — blending choir, orchestra, and electronics into something haunting and darkly beautiful.”

Track List

Behind the Wheel

That’s Alice

How Deep This Goes (Variations on Behind The Wheel)

Rearview

Come To Terms (Variations on Behind The Wheel)

Make Up Stories

Base Instinct (Variations on Behind The Wheel)

Gonna See Me

Really Uncomfortable

The Road (Variations on Behind The Wheel)

You’ve Reached Alice Finch (Variations on Behind The Wheel)

The Headlights

What Do I Do

On The Phone (Variations on Behind The Wheel)

Purchase/Stream: https://lnk.to/HallowRoad

ABOUT LORNE BALFE

Lorne Balfe has created music in virtually all genres and for all visual media with projects ranging from major studio to independent films, tent pole video game franchises, beloved animated feature films, critically acclaimed television series, and documentary features.

Originally from Inverness, Scotland, Lorne’s love of music and writing was evident from an early age.
