It is a world of immense scale, intensity, and mythology, but what inspired me most was the emotion and humanity that [director] Simon McQuoid and the entire filmmaking team brought to it beneath the spectacle. In creating this music, I wanted to honor the legacy of Mortal Kombat while bringing depth, feeling, and cinematic scope to its story. This album reflects the extraordinary work of so many brilliant musicians and collaborators, and I’m deeply grateful to all of them for helping bring it to life. I’m very proud to share this music, and I hope listeners enjoy experiencing it as its own journey.”

In addition to the release of the soundtrack, Waxwork Records will be releasing deluxe double LP’s of both Mortal Kombat (2021) & Mortal Kombat II soundtracks by Benjamin Wallfisch.

Mortal Kombat (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) will be released in “Scorpion” and Sub-Zero” colored vinyl while Mortal Kombat II (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) will be released in “Johnny Cage” and “Otherworld” colored vinyl. I was honored to be asked to make a cover of Techno Syndrome and be a part of its legacy. Doing a Cumbia version was a very fun and also a challenging experience. Cumbia is a very special rhythm and has the characteristic to be timeless—it connects across generations and that is very beautiful. I think the exercise of tropicalizing this iconic song is a very nice surprise to all the Latin fans of this video game, who have been part of this story for so long.”

Expanding the campaign beyond the soundtrack itself, the release also includes a custom playlist generator experience inspired by the world of Mortal Kombat. Fans can choose their fighter and take part in a “Test Your Might” mini game, a callback to the original video game’s iconic challenge mechanic, which determines the outcome of a personalized playlist experience. The activation offers fans an interactive way to celebrate the catalog of music featured in the Mortal Kombat films and games throughout the franchise history in a format designed for both longtime players and new audiences alike.
