The Stargate was discovered in Egypt in 1928 and for decade\"\"<\/a>s it was shrouded in mystery. The true purpose of the gate was finally discovered when Dr. Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) was brought to the Stargate project. Jackson determined that the symbols on the gate could be used to \u201cdial\u201d another gate. Soon it was determined that there was a vast network of gates connecting hundreds of worlds within our galaxy. While searching to find something to defeat Anubis SG-1 found an abandoned alien outpost in Antarctica. It was there they also found clues to the lost city of Atlantis. The team hypothesized that they could use the Stargate to get to Atlantis despite the city being in the Pegasus Galaxy.
\nStargate Command sent an expeditionary force to Atlantis led by Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson) in search of something that could be used to defend Earth. The city had been built by the Ancients and though it possessed wonders that mankind never dreamed of; the Pegasus Galaxy also held an enemy worse than the Goa\u2019uld, the Wraith.<\/p>\n
