The zombie hordes have also invaded many college campuses. During these zombie attacks the best defense is fully loaded Nerf blaster. Now Nerf has created a line of blasters with zombie attacks in mind; their Zombie Strike line.

Exclusive to Target are some pretty bad ass looking blasters including the shotgun-esque Sledgefire and the HammerShot revolver. I was surprised to find both of them on the shelves of my local Target store and had to grab the HammerShot.

First off I have to say that the HammerShot is the perfect successor to the Maverick. Once you have fired the Hammershot you will never even miss the Maverick. This is a very cool blaster. I had heard rumors of the Zombie Strike line on the web but I did not see them at the Hasbro presentation at Toy Fair. I did see the Rebelle line which has a very similar blaster in its lineup called the Wildshot. I fell in love with the Wildshot the first time I fired it, so imagine my elation when I found the HammerShot.

The HammerShot is five shot revolver that is primed by simply pulling back the hammer and you are ready for action. Sometimes it is the simpler things that make you happy. The HammerShot comes with 5 lime green darts which are loaded into the front of the cylinder. There is also no room for storage. You can always get a belt pouch for extra ammo.

The HammerShot actually surprised me. I didn’t expect to get the distance I wanted straight out the box. The shortest shot I was approximately 30 feet with the distance 50+ feet. I can’t give a distance for the last shot because it vanished. I was very impressed with the range. The flaw with my HammerShot is that only 2 out of the 5 shots went straight. There was only a slight breeze so we can’t blame it on the wind.

I think it may be the simplicity of this blaster that makes me like it so much. There are no “bells and whistles” associated with this blaster. There is a tactical rail so you can add a scope or a light to the blaster. I do wish it would have come with some type of holster like the Wildshot does but holsters can be made.

One other thing that came with the HammerShot was 4 stencils. They include a gun cut out (the HammerShot), the Nerf logo, a Zombie and a stylized “Z” which I figure stands for the Zombie Strike line. Some people may get a kick out of them but I will probably pitch them. I am not much into arts and crafts

Aside from the silly stencils there isn’t much I can say that is bad about the HammerShot. I really liked this blaster. It has a great design, good weight and (for now) a unique arming mechanism. Overall it is fun blaster with great range.

The Nerf HammerShot retails for $14.99 and is a Target exclusive. This blaster is recommended for ages 8 and above. Pick one of these up for yourself you won’t be disappointed. And just remember to aim for the head.

Zombies are everywhere.
