Equipment: Diamond Select Toys Captain America Action Figure

This Friday the highly anticipated sequel to Captain America, Captain IMG_6753America: Winter Soldier comes to theaters; so this is a great time to review the Captain America figure from Diamond Select Toys. It is fitting and somewhat appropriate that the version I am reviewing is the James Barnes version.

This 7 inch figure from Diamond Select Toys is based on the Alex Ross version of Captain America from the storyline where “Bucky” has taken over for the murdered Steve Rogers. The costume does pay homage to Cap’s classic red, white and blue threads while looking more modern. The new look for Captain America was practical and functional. Ross’s costume design has him in black boots, black trousers, and a metallic blue and black shirt with red and white stripes. Rounding out the costume are red gloves and a black utility belt. The Captain America figure also comes with a pistol, a canteen and a knife. You can attach the canteen and the knife on the belt by removing the belt pouches. Sadly,  Cap’s gun doesn’t fit in the holster on the belt. It really would have been cool it were functional.

Aside from the DST Captain America looking great on a shelf you (or the child in your life) will have hours of fun engaged in superhero action because this figure is highly articulated.  The points of articulation are as follows:

  1. Neck
  2. Shoulders
  3. Elbows
  4. Waist
  5. Hips
  6. Knees and ankles

The Captain America figure from Diamond Select Toys comes with a gargoyle shaped stand that could be placed on a shelf or mounted on the wall. Personally I like the idea of being able to attach the stand to the wall. It will give you space on your desk for more action figures.

I do like this figure but unfortunately it doesn’t quite live up to some other DST figures I have reviewed. The figure that comes to mind would have to be the Avengers movie version of Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) that set the bar this high. The DST Captain America really could have benefited from a joint in the chest, double knee joints and more poseablility in the wrists. Even though this figure falls short he will make an excellent addition to your collection.
