Hard Copy: A Review for The Art and Making of Hannibal The Television Series

/*89*The hit NBC drama, Hannibal, returns this week for its third sDSCN1161eason with Mads Mikkelsen as the title character, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. If you haven’t watched the series it is a prequel for the characters we have come to know through the novels written by Thomas Harris and their film adaptations.  The series Hannibal is about the humble beginnings of the creepy yet charismatic serial killer Hannibal Lecter because frankly, we all have to start somewhere.

Coinciding with the third season premiere, Titan Books has published The Art and Making of Hannibal, The Television series. This large 176 page book offers fans a great behind the scenes look at this popular show. This book is a feast for the eyes for fans that just can’t get enough.

The first thing that got me was that the table of contents is set up like a menu. Considering the main character is a cannibal, it is fitting. The book covers everything from character profiles, food, to Hannibal’s wardrobe (those are some ugly jackets). One of the most interesting parts of the book is the crime scene photos. It is amazing how realistic the bodies look. There is a morbid fascination with the macabre which makes this book perfect for fans.

Written by Jesse McLean, The Art and Making of Hannibal also has an introduction by producer Martha De Laurentis and is an in depth look at the making of this sometimes gory series. From the aperitif through the dessert this book is worth devouring. This book would be perfect not just for fans of Hannibal but for fans of police procedural shows. The Art and Making of Hannibal gives amazing insight into the making of a television show.

I have to say that aside from knowing the characters that have been in the movies, I was not familiar with this show. Now that I have looked at the book I really think I need to start watching. When it comes to The Art and Making of Hannibal I must say you need this one on your plate. You will eat it up.

The Art and Making of Hannibal is published by Titan books for $24.95 and is available wherever great books are sold.
