There are Star Wars fans who genuinely hated Solo: A Star Wars Story. Personally I felt it wasn’t a completely horrible movie though it was slow. I enjoyed how fans were introduced to one of the most important characters in science fiction before they had grown old and looked overused, but even old and decrepit the Millennium Falcon is still the best. Seriously though, even if you didn’t love the movie you have to admit that there were some interesting characters. One of my favorite characters from Solo: A Star Wars Story was Tobias Beckett played by Woody Harrelson.
I was pretty excited when I found out that Hasbro was producing a 6-inch Beckett for their Black Series line. The Tobias Beckett figure is part of the Star Wars Black Series Wave 18. This assortment is a mix of previously released figures and new. The previously released figures in this series are:
- Lando Calrissian (as seen in Solo)
- Rey (Island Journey as seen in The Last Jedi)
- Range Trooper (as seen in Solo)
- Grand Moff Tarkin (as seen in A New Hope)
- Qi’ra (Solo)
The new releases in Wave 18:
- Tobias Beckett (as seen in Solo)
- Rebel Fleet Trooper (as seen in Rogue One)
- Han Solo (Bespin as seen in The Empire Strikes Back)
I have to say that I am a big fan of the 6 inch Black Series figures especially Stormtroopers but occasionally I am drawn to figures without armor, such as the Beckett figure. This figure stands approximately 6 inches tall and has a pretty decent likeness to Woody Harrelson. One of the great things about the Black Series is that the figures are fully poseable and this figure is no exception. The points of articulation on this figure are:
- Knees (double)
The Tobias Beckett figure comes equipped with 2 blasters. Blasters are a DG-29 Heavy Blaster pistol and a RSKF-44 Heavy Blaster pistol. The figure can hold these blasters or both of them can be placed in the dual holsters around Beckett’s waist. Because of the size of the blasters they require a bit of work getting them secured.
Bottom line about the Tobias Beckett figure is that it isn’t spectacular. He does have decent poseablility and looks good but other than those 2 traits nothing makes him stand out in the vast crowd of Black Series figures. If you are a completest or if you are a fan of the character then this figure is for you but if not you can probably pass on this one.
The Tobias Beckett Black Series figure is from Hasbro and retails for $19.99. This figure is starting to hit shelves so it should be becoming more readily available wherever toys are sold in the next few weeks.
