More About The Thunderball SPECTRE Agent Ring Limited Edition Prop Replica
As seen in Thunderball, the SPECTRE ring is one of the hallmarks of the nefarious SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion) organization. Each important member of SPECTRE wears a ring bearing the infamous octopus motif.
Multiple sized prop rings were made for the film. They were based on a previous version used in 1963’s From Russia With Love, but with revisions to the design, specifically an updated octopus on the face and a new setting.
The prop rings were constructed as practical props by a costume jeweler and a decision was made to set the black octopus emblem on a light background, presumably for greater clarity and to better standout on camera. Contrary to popular belief, the setting was not mother-of-pearl. This belief was the result of studio lighting, making the highly-polished silver color appear as a brilliant white.
Created after exhaustive and careful study of reference materials from the EON Productions archives to ensure maximum accuracy, each Factory Entertainment replica SPECTRE ring is meticulously handcrafted in 14K yellow gold over solid sterling silver, with the recessed black enamel SPECTRE insignia accented by polished rhodium. An invisible layer of clear enamel protects the octopus motif so that the surface is smooth and durable. The underside of the ring is solid backed with a screen accurate split-style shank. The ring weighs approximately 16 grams.
Each replica is supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity.
