Back in the day, I would get together with my friend Mike and we would play with our G.I. Joes together. We would start by breaking down the men into teams and, just like in gym class, we would pick who we wanted. We always fought over who got Beach Head on their team. I know that it would have been easier to have two Beach Head figures but we had a no duplicates rule. Now, G.I. and Beach Head has made a very triumphant return and I want him on my team.
The second wave of the G.I. Joe line has come out as the Target exclusive Special Missions: Cobra Island. This wave includes Road Block (new paint deco), Baroness with motorcycle, Cobra Trooper, and Beach Head. These figures are near impossible to find. Target isn’t doing shipping on these and they vanish from store shelves as quickly as they are stocked due to skyrocketing prices on the secondary market. I was fortunate enough to find a Beach Head at a local Target store.
According to his G.I. Joe file card (from the 80’s version) his real name is Wayne R. Sneeden and he trained as an Army Ranger before being recruited into G.I. Joe. Beach Head enjoys long hikes before breakfast and pushing himself to his very limits. He is meticulous, strong-willed, and patient (Don’t know if this is his file card or OK Cupid dating profile). The modern line doesn’t come with file cards but I am sure at some point they will have character profiles on line.
Just like every other figure in the new G.I. Joe Classified series Beach Head has multiple points of articulation. These are:
- Head
- Neck
- Shoulders
- Biceps
- Chest
- Waist
- Elbows (Double)
- Wrists
- Hips
- Thighs
- Knees (Double)
- Calves
- Ankles
- Feet
Beach Head also comes equipped with a couple of accessories. These are:
- Crossbow Pistol
- Machine Gun
- Sidearm
- Dagger
- Red Beret
- Backpack
He comes with just the right amount of accessories for a stealth mission against the enemy. The one thing I found amusing about the accessories is that his rifle is based on a Nerf rifle Vortex Nitron. This isn’t the first time I found that a figure’s weapon design was taken from a Nerf blaster. First time I noticed a Nerf blaster as a figure’s weapon was when I looked at the guns packaged with the Marvel Legends 12 inch Deadpool. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with the practice, I just find it amusing. (I digress lets go back to the review)
I am so glad that this figure met my expectations. It looks great, is super poseable and overall a great figure. I actually feel bad for the people who don’t open the boxes and pose the figures but they like what they like, who am I to judge?
The Beach Head Cobra Island edition is a Target exclusive and retails for 19.99. This toy is recommended for children 3 and up due to the small parts. Whether you are taking them out for backyard adventures or keeping him sealed and on a shelf, Beach Head is a great figure. I was excited when I found him and if you find one for yourself I think you will feel the same. Yo Joe!
