Equipment: Marvel Select Captain America Civil War from Diamond Select Toys Unboxing and Review

Long before superhero movies were main-stream; a time when comics were only for little kids and adults who still lived with their parents, I was a big Captain America fan. I don’t know what it was about Cap, but whenever we played Marvel superheroes, I wanted to be Captain America. I remember being quite impressive with a metal garbage pail lid. Safe to say I am a fan. I even have multiple versions of Captain America’s action figures, but up until recently I didn’t have Captain America from Civil War.

A Disney store exclusive, the Captain America: Civil War figure came out 5 years ago; making this, what I call, a “retro-review.” That would be a review for a figure that is only available on the secondary market.

The Captain America figure from Captain America: Civil War is a nice looking figure. Standing approximately 7.5 inches tall it is to scale with other figures in the Diamond/Marvel Select lines. Captain America has multiple points of articulation. These are:

  • Head
  • Shoulders
  • Elbows
  • Wrists
  • Chest
  • Waist
  • Hip
  • Thigh
  • Knees (double)
  • Ankles
  • Feet

Captain America also comes with his trademark shield, two (2) additional sets of hands and extra head with helmet. The figure also comes with a display stand.

As with most things that Diamond Select produces, this figure looks great. Personally, I think the head sculpt with the helmet on is better than the helmet-less version; I think it looks more like Chris Evans.

Although I do like this figure I do have a couple of issues with this version of Captain America. This Cap doesn’t have movable biceps as you can find on some other figures from Diamond. Another thing is the single elbow joint. I think this figure really would have benefitted from a double joint in that area. These issues do not affect the playability of the figure, I just think the extra joints would have led to more posing options.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, this figure is long out of production and is only available on the secondary market. The fact that it was a Disney Store exclusive might make it even harder to locate.

Despite the minor issues with this figure I think that it would make a great addition to your Captain America/Avengers collection. I don’t really have anything else to say about this figure except, “Avengers…Assemble!”
