Soundwaves: Star Trek Season 3 V. 2 Music by Stephen Barton & Frederik Wiedmann

Lakeshore Records is set to release Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Volume 2—Original Series Soundtrack digitally on August 16 with music by Stephen Barton and Frederik Wiedmann who are sharing another volume of their fresh take on the classic themes that provided a thrilling backdrop to the third and final season of the beloved series.  STAR TREK: PICARD streams exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and is distributed concurrently by Paramount Global Content Distribution on Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories. In Canada, it airs on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave.

STAR TREK: PICARD features Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” and follows this iconic character into the next chapter of his life. LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Jeri Ryan and Michelle Hurd star alongside Patrick Stewart in the third and final season of the hit Paramount+ original series.

 

The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. For season three, Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Terry Matalas, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Doug Aarniokoski and Dylan Massin serve as executive producers. Terry Matalas serves as showrunner for season three.

ABOUT STEPHEN BARTON

GRAMMY and Ivor Novello-winning, and BAFTA-nominated composer Stephen Barton has left an indelible mark on the realms of film, television, and video games, boasting a prolific career that spans these mediums. He has composed the music for over six dozen projects, such as Star Trek: Picard, all twenty-one seasons of Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Multiversus, The First Descendant, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, 12 Monkeys, and Unlocked, among numerous others.

 

Barton’s influence extends to the world of live service gaming, with titles like Apex, Multiversus, and The First Descendant captivating over 300 million regular players worldwide.

 

Born in 1982, Barton’s musical journey commenced at an astonishingly young age. At just eight years old, he earned a prestigious scholarship, enabling him to sing in Winchester Cathedral Choir and perform on renowned stages worldwide, including the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and the Royal Albert Hall. He recorded as a singer on more than a dozen albums.

 

Embarking on his composing career at the age of 18, Barton served for eight years as an assistant to the acclaimed Harry Gregson-Williams, relocating from the UK to Los Angeles in 2001, and now splits his time between LA and London. Beyond composing, he actively explores spatial and immersive music for virtual, augmented, and extended reality, contributing his expertise to formats like Dolby Atmos and Auro-3D. He is a member of Abbey Road’s Spatial Audio research group, the GRAMMY immersive audio committee, and consults major companies on immersive and binaural audio techniques for music.

 

In addition to his digital endeavors, Barton maintains an active presence as a conductor and pianist. Collaborating with luminaries like Sir Anthony Hopkins and performing with prestigious orchestras such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and Colorado Symphony Orchestra, he continues to shape the world of music with his multifaceted talents.

 

ABOUT FREDERIK WIEDMANN

Emmy-award winning Frederik Wiedmann is one of the most diverse and cultivated composers working in motion pictures today. With over 150 titles to his name in all realms and genres, Wiedmann has established himself as an insightful artist with an enduring passion for storytelling. 

 

Recently, Wiedmann composed music for Star Trek: Picard (Season 3) for Paramount+, Women is Losers starring Simu Liu, which premiered at SXSW in early 2021. Some of his other recent credits include the thriller Alone (starring Donald Sutherland and Tyler Posey), Hangman (directed by Johnny Martin, starring Al Pacino, Karl Urban, Brittany Snow), Millennium Films’ Acts of Vengeance (featuring Antonio Banderas, Paz Vega and Karl Urban), and Day of the Dead: Bloodline (starring Sophie Skelton and Jonathon Schaech).His credits also include Universal’s Doom – Annihilation as well as the epic civil war drama Field of Lost Shoes (directed by Sean McNamara), Paul Schrader’s feature Dying of the Light, The Damned, Blumhouse’s hit horror anthology Into the Dark (for Hulu), and the Australian Sci-Fi hit Occupation: Rainfall (2021). 

 

His next upcoming project will be for Amazon Prime Video’s highly anticipated animated series Batman: Caped Crusader which will follow the hero’s mission against criminals in Gotham City. The series boasts a star-studded cast with J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, and Bruce Timm set to executive Produce. Wiedmann promises to have multiple music genres featured in each episode harkening to a dark and mysterious score for the title character.

 

Wiedmann is the composer behind the hit Nickelodeon show Big Nate, as well as the critically acclaimed Netflix animated fantasy series The Dragon Prince, which is from the writers of the popular series Avatar: The Last Airbender, for which he earned an Emmy nomination in the original score category. In 2016, he won a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of “Outstanding Original Song” alongside lyricist Mitch Watson, for the song “True Bromance” from Dreamworks Animation’s Madagascar spinoff All Hail King Julien. 

 

Wiedmann has been a mainstay in the DC cinematic universe, starting with his work on Green Lantern: The Animated Series, for which he earned two consecutive Annie Awards nominations. His success on the series led to further popular Warner Bros’ DC projects such as, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Son of Batman, Death of Superman, Justice League: Gods and Monsters, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight among others. 

 

He currently lives in LA with his wife and two wonderful children.
