Lakeshore Records is set to release The Day of the Jackal—Original Series Soundtrack today, December 13, Featuring an original score by Oscar and BAFTA Award-winning composer Volker Bertelmann (All Quiet On The Western Front). Bertelmann keeps the orchestra taught and angular in his score and maintains a dark tension throughout. The dramatic thriller is produced by Carnival Films, which is part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group. Reimagined into this series by writer Ronan Bennet and lead director Brian Kirk, it stars Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch and the full season is streaming now on Peacock in the US as well as on Sky and streaming service NOW in the UK.
The Day of the Jackal, which recently garnered two Golden Globe and two Critics Choice nominations, is based on the 1971 classic thriller novel by Frederick Forsyth, subsequently adapted into a critically acclaimed film directed by Fred Zinnemann and starring Edward Fox, which was nominated for a host of awards and soon became a classic of the genre.
The Sky and Peacock Original ten-episode drama follows an elite assassin, The Jackal (Eddie Redmayne) as he works towards carrying out a seemingly impossible hit. However, his actions soon attract the attention of a British intelligence officer, Bianca (Lashana Lynch), who sets out to hunt him down before his next kill.
Notes Bertelmann: “Working on such a great thriller series and collaborating with Brian Kirk and all the other directors on the show was a pleasure and a wonderful experience. I think Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch are amazing and to make the music for a series like that is a pleasure and a lot of fun!!”
