Two years ago, at Motor City Comic Con I was fortunate enough to meet the guys from Harvinger Studios and I was blown away by the craftsmanship that went into their figures. I asked them what their goal was and they told me they wanted to make extremely poseable figures with great detail and from what I have seen I think they have reached that goal.
Last week I was completely surprised to receive a package from Havinger Studios containing a 1/12th figure and I couldn’t wait to do a review. The figure was the Veteris Rapax from the Savage Crucible line.
Standing approximately 7 inches tall it has an impressive list of poseable points. Let us start from the top:
- Head (ball joint)
- Mandible
- Shoulders
- Scapula
- Bicep
- Elbows (Double)
- Chest/Sternum
- Wrists
- Waist
- Hips
- Knees (Double)
- Ankles
- Feet
- Tail with 4 points of articulation
Also included is a pair of open hands and an extra head without helmet.
Veteris Rapax also comes with enough weapons to fit his every murderous impulse:
- Battle Axe
- Saber
- Sword that resembles a Celtic Boudica Sword
- Sword that resembles a Roman Gladius
- “Crystal” Sword
- Coiled Whip
I actually almost missed the “Crystal” sword. This sword was in a black zipper lock bag which was taped to the bottom of the inside packaging.
This figure also comes with a trading card with art work of Veteris Rapax on one side and a character sheet that includes his stats, skills and saving throws (pretty much everything you need on a character sheet) on the other side.
I am really impressed with the quality of this figure. Great care and forethought went into this figure’s design. Even though he is heavily armored it does not get in the way of his poseability. I have seen figures that have had multiple points of articulation rendered almost unposeable because of armor and clothing.
Speaking of the armor, the spikes are very pointy so handle with care, especially when swapping out heads. I really like the helmeted head because the armor mimics a triceratops’ horn core.
I have to say that this is one of the nicest figures I have reviewed in a while. I was really impressed with the amount of articulation. This figure is perfect for hours of play, action figure photography or to just stand ever vigilant on a shelf.
