Lakeshore Records has released 
Grassland—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally today, May 2 featuring music by composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Zach Nicita. Nicita’s haunting score augments the dramatic themes of the film in subtle and sublime ways. Indiewire notes: “it seeps into the subconscious and amplifies the movie’s emotional effects without overpowering them.” The film Executive Produced by Common is available on Digital now via Gravitas Ventures.
Grassland is a topical and riveting social justice drama about the criminal justice system and marijuana incarceration rates.
The narrative film, which is led by Mía Maestro (The Motorcycle Diaries), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time), Jeff Kober (Sons of Anarchy) and Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew), is set in 2008 and explores both the economic recession and the inequities of incarceration rates of the era. The story follows Leo (Cabot-Conyers), an inquisitive and sensitive boy who puts his single mother’s (Maestro) illegal marijuana business at risk when he befriends the new neighbors, a young white boy and his police officer grandfather (Kober).
Nicita tells Indiewire: “I felt truly invested in every cue, and that’s really important because I think it’s always going to yield the best results. As a creative, the end goal is to find those projects where you really feel truly connected to it, and I felt that the entire way through. It never felt like a job.”
