Americana Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on September 5 with an original score by Emmy-winning composer David Fleming (Superman). Starting with an orchestra recorded in Nashville, Fleming embraces country and western music with his use of dulcimers, pedal steel guitar, mandolin, fiddle, vintage piano and electric bass, creating a richly atmospheric score steeped in vintage American musical traditions. Michael Geiger’s deep vocalizations further anchor the vivid soundscapes throughout. The neo-western crime thriller released by Lionsgate starring Sydney Sweeney and Paul Walter Hauser is in theaters now.
A gallery of dynamic characters clash over the possession of a rare Native American artifact in this wildly entertaining modern-day western. After the artifact falls onto the black market, a shy waitress with big dreams (Sydney Sweeney) teams up with a lovelorn military veteran (Paul Walter Hauser) to gain possession of it, putting them in the crosshairs of a ruthless criminal (Eric Dane) working on behalf of a Western antiquities dealer (Simon Rex). Bloodshed ensues when others join the battle, including the leader of an indigenous group (Zahn McClarnon) and a desperate woman fleeing her mysterious past (Halsey).
Notes Fleming: “Creating the score for ‘Americana’ meant a full immersion into the deep and beautiful world of country and western music, including a trove of albums and scores that inspired our writer & director, Tony Tost. While the score is grounded in the tradition of country music decades-old, I also sought to evoke the feeling of a truly ancient old west, full of ghosts and mystery. To help me achieve this, the late Michael Geiger’s brilliant, gravelly bass voice acts as the narrator for the score. Adding strains of pedal steel guitar and an orchestra recorded in Nashville, I came away from this film with a profound respect for this musical culture and the tradition of storytelling that it is seeped in.”

ABOUT DAVID FLEMING
David Fleming is an Emmy-winning American composer who has written scores for both film and television including most recently James Gunn’s Superman, as well as the upcoming A24 film Eternity set for a TIFF premiere.
Fleming’s score for Ron Howard’s Jim Henson: Idea Man earned him a Primetime Emmy as well as the ASCAP Composer’s Choice Award for Documentary Score of the Year, with his work on Amazon’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” bringing him a second Emmy nomination.
Starting his career moonlighting in New York ad houses, Fleming relocated to Los Angeles after winning BMI’s Pete Carpenter Fellowship and soon began contributing music to major films. Fleming composed the score for the BBC’s acclaimed “Blue Planet II” alongside Hans Zimmer, which marked the start of a collaborative relationship with the Academy Awardâ-winning composer, encompassing scores for both Dune films as well as Top Gun: Maverick.
Fleming’s sweeping orchestral fantasy score for Netflix’s Damsel marked his first solo feature, while his dark electronic work alongside Gustavo Santaolalla on HBO’s “The Last of Us” won ASCAP’s Composer’s Choice Award for Television Score of the Year, as well as a World Soundtrack Award nomination for Television Composer of the Year.
Through his soundtrack work, Fleming has also collaborated with popular recording artists such as Elton John, Lady Gaga, Pharrell Williams and Beyoncé, with whom he worked on the Grammy-nominated song “Spirit” for her album “The Lion King: The Gift.”
