Blending the raw, rhythmic soul of
South American folk with high-end cinematic grandeur comes La Casa De Los Espíritus (Banda Sonora Original De La Serie De Amazon Prime) or The House of the Spirits (Original Soundtrack From The Amazon Prime Series), featuring a sweeping and innovative score by composer Tomás Videla. Timed with the premiere of the highly anticipated Prime Video series, already hailed as a Variety Critic’s Pick, this marks the first-ever Spanish-language adaptation of Isabel Allende’s iconic novel.
Videla has created a “Cinematic Folk” score, merging an elite Budapest orchestra with the authentic grit of local South American guitars and percussion. The resulting score is a masterclass in atmospheric storytelling: by incorporating specialized tango techniques directly into the orchestral string writing, Videla captures the Trueba family’s multi-generational saga of passion and political unrest.
Videla notes, “Finding the musical identity for The House of the Spirits meant honoring the South American musical roots of the setting while embracing the show’s massive cinematic scope. We established the main theme early on, often centering it around the guitar, allowing it to transform through different instrumental voices to match different characters and the passing of time across the family’s history. The orchestra served as the emotional glue, connecting the different generations of women in the Trueba family through every era. We treated the ‘magical realism’ not as a separate element to be highlighted, but as the very fabric of the score trying to mirror Isabel Allende’s prose. The soloists truly brought that South American spirit and magical realism to life with their performances. Being part of this adaptation was truly an honor, and I couldn’t be happier with how the series and its sound have come together.”
