Equipment: Always Bet on Black. Review of Star Wars Black Series 3 Stormtrooper

Last year Hasbro released the first series of their 6 inch Star Wars BlaIMG_6798ck line and it was an instant hit. These figures have incredible poseability and are highly detailed. The only downside of this figure line would be the high price. The figures come with minimal accessories and a $20 price tag. This makes it a stretch for someone to complete every series.

The Star Wars Black 6 inch line is now on their 3rd series. This series includes Han Solo (reissue from Series 2), Luke Skywalker in Bespin Fatigues, Obi-Wan Kenobi from Attack of the Clones and a Stormtrooper from A New Hope. Because I have a soft spot for Stormtroopers in all their incarnations I have chosen to review this figure.

Much like the Sandtrooper from the first series I knew that I had to own this figure when I first saw it on the peg.  The Stormtrooper figure is dressed in the armor that was used from  A New Hope through Return of the Jedi and comes with 2 blasters. The first blaster is the standard sidearm, the Blas Tech E-11 blaster rifle, and the Blas Tech DLT-20A Laser Rifle. The E-11 fits perfectly into the holster on the Stormtrooper’s belt. The DLT-20A has no shoulder strap or other means of attachment and needs to be carried by the figure.

The Star Wars Black Series Stormtrooper stands 6 inches high and has approximately 22 points of articulation. I say approximate because it depends on how you add up the individual points. The poseability of the figures in this line is one of the big draws for them. The Stormtrooper is no exception. The head is on a ball-joint which is also jointed so you can move the head up and down. The figure has shoulder joints, bicep joints, double elbow joints and wrist joints. The hands are on pegs so they can be turned with the wrists each having their own direction for movement. The left wrist goes up and down and the right wrist moves back and forth. The hips move side to side and back and forth, the knee joints are double joints and the ankles also move up and down as well as side to side. There are also joints at the waist and the chest area.  All of these points of articulation make this one very awesome figure not just to pose on shelf but to play with as well.

The Stormtrooper has peg holes on each foot to make the figure easier to stand up but there is no reason you would have to use these (unless you posed him in a running pose). You can set up the Stormtrooper in almost any position. The Stormtrooper figure can be posed crouched, standing and crawling. If these figures weren’t so expensive it would be nice to have an army of these.

I am a huge fan of the 6 inch Star Wars Black figures and this Stormtrooper is no exception. I recommend picking one (or two) of these if you come across them. Each series of the Star Wars Black has a stand-out figure (Series 1 had the Sandtrooper; Series 2 had Boba Fett) and this one may be the stand-out for Series 3.
