Transmissions: Fox Pulls the Plug on the Futuristic Drama Almost Human

Fox in their infinite wisdom has cancelled Almost Humaalmost-human-s1n. The science fiction show was set in the not too distant future about a police officer with a robot partner lasted only 13 episodes.

Almost Human starred Karl Urban as John Kennex, a police officer that was both emotionally and physically damaged who was assigned an android partner played by Michael Ealy. The show was an excellent mix of police drama and futuristic adventure. I really loved the Blade Runner feel to the show…right down to Kennex eating dinner at an outside noodle bar. This show depicted a future that could very well happen.

Fox has a tendency of cancelling popular shows such as the cult favorite, Firefly as well as Dollhouse. Science fiction has always had a short life on television. There have been exceptions to the rule but even the self-proclaimed Syfy Channel has been known to cancel popular shows. In recent years Syfy cancelled Eureka and Warehouse 13 to make room for more reality television. We live in the “age of the geek” but there is almost nothing for us geeks to watch.

Fox really should have given this show a chance. The worst part is that I have known that this show was heading to the chopping block but couldn’t say anything until it was announced. If television keeps going this way we will no longer need writers. Please Hollywood, we don’t need more people like Snooki or Honey Boo Boo…we need more people like John Kennex.
