35 years ago when the Ridley Scott classic, Alien, first graced the big screen, the creature was barely seen. The fact that you never got a good look at the creature made the movie scarier. The original design was based on the art of the Swiss artist H.R. Giger. His biomechanical creature went on to not only become the thing of nightmares but of cinematic legend. And now it is a Christmas ornament from Hallmark.
It seems like a weird thing to have such a horrific visage as part of your holiday display but it isn’t as strange as you may think. The Alien in all of its glistening shadowy glory is loved by science fiction and horror fans alike. Having this on the tree is like Christmas morning at my house in 1979. My brother Dominick received the Alien action figure from Kenner so having this ornament on the tree is like experiencing that Christmas all over again. Granted, I don’t think Dominick is afraid of the Alien any longer.
The Alien is a pop culture icon and Hallmark does know how to keep fans happy. Hallmark has made other science fiction mainstays into ornaments including several Star Trek ships, the Nautilus from 20000 Leagues Under The Sea and a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica so the Alien isn’t a stretch.
Measuring 3.87″ W x 4″ H x 2.31″ D and molded in black, this Xenomorph is a perfect addition to your tree. The Alien Ornament retails for $17.95. I do love the translucent headpiece that allows you to see the skull structure underneath.
This Keepsake Ornament is perfect for the horror, gaming, science fiction or pop culture fan in your life. This ornament is posed so it can be displayed on desk or a shelf year round. I have to admit that of all the ornaments I have seen for this year the Alien is my favorite. It will look great on your tree…and in your nightmares. Pleasant dreams.
