I must admit that I never read Thor comics when I was a kid. Hell, even as an adult I never read Thor comics. My first real exposure to The God of Thunder was the cheesy Marvel Cartoon from the 1960’s (I can still hear the theme song in my head). I don’t remember the Destroyer being in the cartoon but I do remember it in the 2011 movie.
The Destroyer is Asgardian armor that has been forged by Odin. In the movie, Loki sends the armor to kill Thor while is on Earth and powerless. The Destroyer has the ability to shoot powerful beams of energy from his face-plate. These devastating blasts leveled many of the buildings in the small town where Thor was staying. It wasn’t until Thor regained his power that he was able to defeat the magical armor.
I like the character (or weapon I can’t decide) of the Destroyer. His job was probably one of the most important on Asgard he had to guard Odin’s treasure room. The imposing Destroyer is a pretty bad-ass weapon. Almost indestructible. The Destroyer is so powerful it took a God to defeat him.
Fans of Thor will love the fact that Diamond Select Toys has produced a Destroyer figure that is just as imposing as the real thing. This figure stands approximately 9 inches tall and is one of the heaviest Marvel Select figures I have ever reviewed (I don’t have a Hulk). This figure has approximately 17 points of articulation. The points of poseability are:
• Head (ball joint)
• Shoulders
• Biceps
• Elbows
• Wrists
• Hips
• Thighs
• Knees
• Ankles
• Waist
• Chest
I was very impressed by The Destroyer because in the package he looks like a solid lump of silver plastic but he is poseable enough to stage fights between him and other figures. He is a great addition to your Thor collection. The Destroyer comes with Odin’s head so you can swap it out for the regular Destroyer’s head. Also included is a sword.
The Marvel Select Destroyer figure from Diamond Select Toys retails for $24.99 and is worth every penny. He can be found wherever collectible figures are sold.
