The behind the scene workings of films and television shows has always intrigued me. I love looking through books with production art and set design because I like to get an idea of how different things are between concept and what appears on the screen. This year Pacific Rim: Uprising was released with even more robo-battles and giant monster action than the original. Fortunately, Insight Editions published The Art and Making of Pacific Rim: Uprising so people like me can peek behind the curtain.
Insight Editions always goes above and beyond with their art books. There is usually something interactive within the book like an envelope what additional information. I wasn’t surprised that there was some surprises within The Art and Making of Pacific Rim: Uprising, I was surprise by the amount. Scattered throughout the book are fold outs that contain both used and unused jaeger designs as well as some other nice surprises. There are 12 of these spread throughout the book. The Art and Making of Pacific Rim: Uprising is broken down into 4 parts. The sections are:
- Crossing the Breach
- A Post-War World
- Defending Humanity
- Alien Invasion
Each larger section contains smaller sections that focus on the different aspects such as character information, jaeger designs or information on the Kaiju. The Art and Making of Pacific Rim: Uprising is filled with stills from both sides of the camera as well as some amazing artwork. If I didn’t already have a love for giant robots this art book would definitely convert me. There also something for the Kaiju lover with descriptions and names of the creatures in the Alien Invasion section.
The Art and Making of Pacific Rim: Uprising is 156 glossy pages of badass robot action. This book isn’t only pretty pictures; the accompanying text written by Daniel Wallace (The Jedi Path, Iron Man Manual) gives a good look into the world of Pacific Rim. The forward of the book is written by the film’s director, Steven S. DeKnight.
I was very impressed with The Art and Making of Pacific Rim: Uprising from Insight Editions. This book is perfect for the Pacific Rim fan in your life.
