Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel began their next phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This new phase is not only bringing fans new movies it also includes television shows. These new shows are broadcast on the Disney Plus streaming service and they are so much better than I expected. Disney turned Friday nights back into TGIF, aka must see television night. (As of publication of this review Disney has chosen Wednesday as the new Marvel shows night)
Potential Spoilers Ahead…you have been warned!
This review isn’t for the Marvel shows but for their corresponding action figures. Hasbro Marvel Legends line’s newest wave is the characters from the Disney Plus series. These include WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki.
The first of these shows was WandaVision starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as Wanda and the Vision. This quirky show paid homage to sitcoms through the decades. The final episode showed fans the new looks for these former Avengers. The end credit scene in the last episode showed Scarlet Witch astral projecting so part of her could study while the other half dealt with other matters (even super-heroes have laundry day). This isn’t the first time we witnessed a character astral projecting, Stephen Strange learned about it in his time at Kamar-Taj.
The figures from this show are the two main characters Wanda and Vision. Wanda stands approximately 6 inches tall with multiple points of articulation:
- Head
- Shoulders
- Chest
- Elbows (Double)
- Wrists
- Hips
- Thighs
- Knees (Double)
- Ankles
- Feet
She also comes with an extra set of hands as well as two wispy energy forms to simulate the use of magic. She is a really nice looking figure and the sculpt is a pretty good likeness of Elizabeth Olsen.
WandaVision just wouldn’t be complete without the Vision. Standing approximately 6 inches tall this new version of the character is not the same Vision that died in Avengers: Infinity War; it is a construct of the government agency called S.W.O.R.D. This version not only lacks Vision’s personality it also lacks color. This new Vision really stands out in a crowd. As with all of the Marvel Legends figures, Vision has multiple points of articulation. These are:
- Head
- Shoulders
- Biceps
- Chest
- Elbows (Double)
- Waist
- Hips
- Wrists
- Thighs
- Knees (Double)
- Ankles
- Feet
Also included is a second set of hands. The head sculpt is a good likeness of Paul Bettany.
The next Disney Plus show is The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as the two title characters, this show also introduces fans to the character of John Walker (played by Wyatt Russell) who is chosen by the government to become the next Captain America. This show was a bit more like the Marvel movies we are used to seeing, more action, less quirky. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier also brought back the character of Zemo (played by Daniel Bruhl) who helps the heroes track down a dangerous terrorist organization.
Each one of these characters gets the action figure treatment but I have to ask, “Where is my Sharon Carter”? Maybe in the next wave. First up has to be the Falcon who, by the end of the series, is known by his new title: Captain America.
In the final episode of the season Sam Wilson dons the Wakandan designed Captain America costume that incorporates his falcon wings and Cap’s shield. This figure stands approximately 6 inches tall and has multiple points of articulation. These points are:
- Head
- Shoulders
- Biceps
- Chest
- Elbows (Double)
- Hips
- Thighs
- Wrists
- Knees(Double)
- Ankles
- Feet
Captain America comes with his iconic shield. The sculpt looks just like Anthony Mackie did on the show. This is a nice looking figure.
Next up is everyone’s favorite mind controlled assassin, Bucky Barnes, AKA The Winter Soldier.
James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes was a member of the Howling Commandos and Steve Rogers’ best friend until he “died” on a mission and was recovered by enemy forces. For decades the brainwashed Barnes went in and out of suspended animation while being used as the ruthless assassin, The Winter Soldier.
Eventually Bucky was rescued by Steve Rogers and was brought to Wakanda for rehabilitation. His quiet life was interrupted when Thanos attacked Earth and then snapped 50% of all life out of existence, including Barnes.
Following the “Blip” Barnes found himself working with Sam Wilson, Falcon to bring down a group of terrorists called The Flag Smashers.
The Winter Soldier Figure stands approximately 6.5 inches tall and has great poseability. His points of articulation are:
- Head
- Shoulders
- Biceps
- Elbows (Double)
- Chest
- Waist
- Wrists
- Hips
- Thighs
- Knees (Double)
- Calf
- Ankles
- Feet
He comes with an extra set of hands and part of Cap’s wings. I thought he should come with was some kind of weapon but he does not.
Finding that they need help locating and taking down the Flag Smashers, Sam and Bucky recruit an unlikely ally, Baron Zemo. The Zemo figure is one of my favorites in this assortment. The costumer on the show designed an outfit that paid homage to his look in the comics without being ridiculous.
Zemo stands approximately 6.5 inches tall and has multiple points of articulation. These are:
- Head
- Shoulders
- Biceps
- Elbows (Double)
- Chest
- Waist
- Wrists
- Hips
- Thighs
- Knees (Double)
- Calf
- Ankles
- Feet
Zemo comes with a masked head, a book and a gun. He also comes with part of Cap’s wings.
The last figure from Falcon and the Winter Soldier in this assortment is USAgent. Formerly the new Captain America John Walker was discharged for killing an unarmed assailant. Walker was then recruited by Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and rebranded USAgent.
The face sculpt is almost spot on. USAgent stands approximately 6.5 inches tall and like the other figures in this assortment has multiple points of articulation. These are:
- Head
- Shoulders
- Biceps
- Elbows (Double)
- Chest
- Waist
- Wrists
- Hips
- Thighs
- Knees (Double)
- Calf
- Ankles
- Feet
Also included are an extra set of hands and a part of Cap’s wings.
The last figure in the Disney Plus assortment is the God of Mischief, Loki from Loki. After being captured by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) Loki tasked with helping capture a rogue variant who is killing time agents.
Because he is working with the TVA the Loki figure is dressed in a beige jacket and brown trousers. This is a very boring look for Loki. He does however have great poseability. His points of articulation are:
- Head
- Shoulders
- Biceps
- Elbows (Double)
- Chest
- Waist
- Wrists
- Hips
- Thighs
- Knees (Double)
- Calf
- Ankles
- Feet
The Loki figure also includes a stand for the new Captain America, a wing backpack and the red wing drone.
The Disney Plus assortment is available now and the figures retail for approximately $19.99.
