Equipment: Lost in Space Action Figure 2-Pack Will Robinson and the Robot from Well Played Toys

I can’t believe that it has been 3 years since I first came across Well Played Toys at Toy Fair; it is a mildly amusing tale. I kept seeing signs around the convention about Lost in Space toys and a room number and I became determined to find their booth. Between interviews and other coverage my photographer and I began to search for this “mystery” room. Each time we asked for directions no one had a clue where this booth might be located. This whole matter became a running joke, we were sure we would never find the Lost in Space toys; I am glad that we were wrong.

Now, 3 years later, Lost in Space is starting its final season on Netflix and the first of the Lost in Space figures are available for pre-order. These first figures released are a 2-pack of Will Robinson and the Robot.

Both Will Robinson and the Robot have multiple points of articulation. It is my personal opinion that the more poseable a figure is the more increases playability. Using that logic, you can get hours of play out of the Lost in Space figures.

Since this is a 2-pack each figure will get their own breakdown. First, we will start with Will Robinson. Will stands approximately 5 ¼ inches tall and comes dressed in his outfit from first season. As I stated previously this figure has multiple points of articulation. These are:

  • Head
  • Neck
  • Shoulders
  • Chest
  • Elbows
  • Hips (Limited)
  • Wrists
  • Knees (Double)
  • Ankle

I like that there is so much detail on Will that you can even read the patch on the sleeve of his jacket. The patch reads, “Mission 24.” (See photos) I noted that the movement of the hips is limited; this is because of the jacket design. The costume would have to be redesigned to make it work which just seems silly. The only other issue with the Will Robinson figure is his face. I do feel that there could have been more detail. Other than those minor issues, Will Robinson, all in all, is a nice figure.

Next up is everyone’s favorite non-human character, the Robot. This figure stands approximately 7 inches tall and looks almost as cool as he does on the show. The Robot is also fully poseable and the points of articulation are:

  • Head
  • Neck
  • Shoulders (Limited)
  • Chest
  • Elbows
  • Hips
  • Wrists
  • Knees (Double)
  • Ankles

I really like the look of the Robot. I have been up close and personal with a 1:1 scale version and think this one looks just as good. I noted that the movement of the shoulders is limited but that is because of the Robot’s exoskeleton. I think that the sculptor for this figure made the right choice to keep the Robot’s looks over movement. I do think that the Robot would have benefited from double elbow joints allowing for more poseability. I also like the use of glitter on the Robot’s faceplate to recreate the effect from the show.

The Lost in Space Will Robinson and the Robot 2-pack are available exclusively from Walmart and retails for $49.99. This 2-pack is the first in, what I hope to be many more figures from the Netflix hit. The final season is airing now and at the time of this writing the figures were still available.

Thanks to our friends over at Well Played Toys for supplying this set for review!
