The holiday season hasn’t always been my favorite time of year but there is one thing I love about the holidays, Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments. Each year the ornaments get more elaborate, such as the talking ones that interact or ones that have such fine detail. These ornaments are really something that could be displayed year-round because they are little works of art.
Another thing that I like is the fact the Pop Culture themed ornaments have grown more accessible. It seems that no matter your fandom, there is a good chance that Hallmark has a Keepsake Ornament for you. Though you can find the more obscure Pop Culture fandoms, this review is for ornaments from three of the most successful franchises in the world: Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who (actually a few years ago the majority of Americans wouldn’t know anything about Doctor Who).
Speaking of the Doctor, let us begin with his review. Though there are several doctors, the Doctor that Hallmark chose to produce this year is the fourth Doctor, portrayed by Tom Baker. I think for some of us older fans he was our first Doctor and he is one of the most recognizable with his oversized scarf and his floppy hat. Since there have been so many doctors, everyone is going to have a favorite but choosing Tom Baker was a great way to start.
The figure measures 1.78″ W x 4.59″ H x 2.14″ D and comes in reusable box which is dated 2021. The Doctor Who Keepsake Ornament would be a unique and whimsical addition to your tree. The Doctor Who Keepsake Ornament is available now at your local Hallmark Store and retails for 24.99.
Since we are going from oldest to newest franchise, next up is the La Sirena from Star Trek Picard. Owned and operated by Cristóbal Ríos, La Sirena is hired by Picard to take him into the Romulan Neutral Zone to rescue a young scientist who is in grave danger.
The design of La Sirena is different from the other ships we are familiar with from the Star Trek universe. La Sirena is a warp-capable Kaplan F17 Speed Freighter and I think that its appearance in Star Trek Picard is the first time we see a ship of this class on film. This is a must for any Star Trek fan.
The ship is painted in a red and grey color scheme and measures 2.25″ W x 0.937″ H x 4.1875″ D. The ornament requires three (3) LR41 batteries, which are included, to run the sound effects. The sound effects are dialog from Star Trek Picard. Like most Keepsake Ornaments, La Sirena comes in a reusable box dated 2021. SRP is $32.99
The final ornament we are looking at is one of the most iconic ships in science fiction. Even if you aren’t a fan of Sci-Fi there is a really good chance you would still recognize the Millennium Falcon. First seen in Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope, the Millennium Falcon is the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy!
The Falcon was sculpted by Robert Hurlburt who is no stranger to Star Wars ornaments having sculpted several other ships over the years. There is an amazing amount of detail packed into this little ship; it is a thing of beauty! This all silver colored, metal Keepsake ornament weighs 14 ounces and measures 3.78″ W x 1.4″ H x 5.22″ D and has a SRP $44.99.
This year’s Keepsake ornaments do not disappoint and there is still time to get to your local Hallmark Gold Crown store and grab the ones that will make your Christmas bright! Happy Holidays!
