E.V.A.: Fantasticon Toledo

Here in the Midwest spring likes to tease. Earlier this week it was 70 degrees (Fahrenheit) but on Saturday, day one of Fantasticon, the thermometer didn’t raise above 28 (F). The cold temperatures didn’t stop the crowds from showing up at Seagate Center in downtown Toledo. The return of Fantasticon to the Glass City means a return of pop culture, comic books and of course, cosplayers.

Fantasticon had something for kids of all ages with media guest stars and dealers selling collectibles, comic books, and toys. This weekend’s show had the beautiful Marta Kristen (Judy Robinson) from the original Lost in Space, Emmy winning special effects make-up artist Daniel Phillips and the voice of Frylock, Carey Means. Also in attendance were some comic industries greats, including some local talent.

One of the highlights for me was the crew from the Jupiter Experience. The Jupiter Experience featured original props and costumes from Lost in Space. I have to admit I may have taken up more of their time than they had to share but Lost in Space has always been one of my favorite shows. Speaking of which, I was able to speak briefly with Ms. Kristen and I was quite smitten. Don West was a lucky guy.

Fantasticon finishes up tomorrow, Sunday 3/13. Check out the website for all the details.
