Day two is in the books. On Saturday the aisles were a bit more crowded and filled with so many cosplayers. Wandering around we saw several variations on Doctor Who, a plethora of Poison Ivy, Thor in his various stages from God to glutton and, of course, the 501st legion. I am very impressed by how much time and effort went into making these costumes and the hard work shows. Sure, there are some people who just put on sunglasses and say they are Tony Stark but there are others who build the armor.
Aside from being able to dress up, Motor City Comic Con is the place to pick up that impossible to find back issue of your favorite comic book or that sought after collectible. One aspect I like at conventions is you can purchase some incredible artwork and if you are lucky you can meet the artist. Speaking of art, I fell in love with stuff from Studio Desade ; if you are into spaceships there are some fantastic ones that would look great on your wall. We also stopped at Matsumoto Art to talk with Michael Matsumoto about his incredible artwork. The Avatar: The Last Airbender prints were gorgeous. You can check out his site and shop for art I also stopped to admire art of a different kind. At the Galaxy Props booth we saw amazing helmets. You can check out their site at https://www.galaxyprops.net/. If you can get out to Motor City Comic Con Sunday you should check these booths out in person.
One of the other things I like about Motor City Comic Con is that the Hyatt Place that is, in addition to the various concession stands, the convention center has a bar/restaurant area called Fireside Grill and Patio where you can decompress away from the crowds for a little bit. I like that the bar has a special drink menu for the convention with drinks named for both heroes and villains. A photo of the drink list is in our gallery.
If you didn’t make it to Motor City Comic Con this time around there will be another one in October. Check here or on our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for all the latest news.
