Hard Copy: Marvel: Illustrated Guide to the Spider-Verse from Insight Editions Review and Contest to Win a Copy!

The sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has finally hit theaters. This new movie, aptly called Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse takes viewers on a tour of an animated multi-verse. If you are a Marvel fan you know about the multi-verse. The multi-verse was addressed in the Loki Disney Plus series, as well as Doctor Strange in the Multi-Verse of Madness and of course Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse. Each of the many different worlds in the multi-verse has its own Spider-Man with their own look, personality and trauma. Since there are so many Spider beings to keep track of, Insight Editions picked the perfect time to release the Marvel: Illustrated Guide to the Spider-Verse.

Before you say anything, yes, I know it isn’t a coincidence that this book hit shelves the same time Sony’s new Spider-Man movie hit theaters. In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales is brought to the headquarters of the Spider-Beings where there is a seemingly endless amount of wall crawlers. Since not everyone can name all of the Spideys, an illustrated guide comes in very handy. While this book is in no way a comprehensive guide to all of the worlds in the multi-verse, it does offer information on some of the more well-known web slingers.

Marvel: Illustrated Guide to the Spider-Verse is 112 pages filled with artwork and descriptions of the various web heads. Each one is also identified by the version of Earth they are from. For example, the description of Miles Morales includes Earth 1610 as his designated home world. Keeping the various Spider-Beings straight is easy compared to trying to figure out which world they inhabit. I worked in a comic book shop for 4 and a half years and I could probably only identify a handful of them. After seeing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse I am grateful I have this book.

Marvel: Illustrated Guide to the Spider-Verse is published by Insight Editions with artwork by Giuseppe Camuncoli, Yancy Labat and Marco Del Forno and written by Marc Sumerak. This “superhero field guide” has more than 60 illustrations with some never before seen artwork.

Though it may sound cliché, the truth is that this book would make a great addition to your library. It is a great resource when trying to figure out just who is who in the Spider-Verse. Marvel: Illustrated Guide to the Spider-Verse retails for $34.99 and is available now wherever you purchase your books.
