Soundwaves: The Legend of Vox Machina: Season 2—Amazon Original Series Soundtrack Available Now

Lakeshore Records is set to release The Legend of Vox Machina: Season 2—Amazon Original Series Soundtrack digitally today, June 2.  The soundtrack to the second season of the hit adult animated fantasy-adventure series based on beloved characters and stories from the world of Critical Role, again showcases an exhilarating orchestrated score by Neal Acree. The album also contains a number of trademark ribald songs by Sam Riegel (who sings in character as Scanlan Shorthalt), and Peter Habib of Mr. Fantastic. The series, a production of Amazon Studios, Critical Role and Titmouse is streaming globally on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

After saving the realm from evil and destruction at the hands of the most terrifying power couple in Exandria, Vox Machina is faced with saving the world once again—this time, from a sinister group of dragons known as the Chroma Conclave.

The Legend of Vox Machina is a production by Amazon Studios, Critical Role, and Titmouse for Prime Video. The series stars Critical Role founders and cast members Laura Bailey (The Last of Us: Part II), Taliesin Jaffe (Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn), Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us), Liam O’Brien (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Matthew Mercer (Overwatch), Marisha Ray (Final Fantasy XV: Comrades), Sam Riegel (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Travis Willingham (Marvel’s Avengers). The Critical Role cast also serves as executive producers, alongside Brandon Auman (Star Wars: Resistance), Chris Prynoski (Metalocalypse), Shannon Prynoski (Fairfax), and Ben Kalina (Big Mouth).

Says Riegel: “Season Two of The Legend of Vox Machina took everything to the next level – so we knew the music had to match. From wild road songs to epic love ballads and face-melting thrash metal, the Scanlan tracks were so much fun to write. And I’m so happy we got to include vocals from other members of the cast. Turns out Laura Bailey, Ashley Johnson, and even Travis Willingham can sing!”

Notes Acree:”Much like season one, season two was full of opportunities to expand the sonic palette and challenge the expectations of the fantasy genre. But the real heart of the score is intertwined with the personal journeys and the obstacles that our heroes must overcome. New themes are earned like Vestiges of Divergence through trials of personal sacrifice. Moments of transformation (both literal and metaphorical) opened the door to everything from solo vocals and synthesizer arpeggios (Pass Through Fire) to an all bass choir (Where Do You Find Your Strength?). Season two raises the stakes and takes us to some incredibly dark places but through it all these musical threads of fate lead us through to the light.”

Adds Mr. Fantastic (AKA Peter Habib): “Luckily, Sam and I were able to continue the shenanigans for season two. In an ongoing effort to see how many genres we can cover across the series, this season we tackled Americana, Emo Pop, 80’s Rock Ballads, Screamo, and Irish Folk. Fortunately, we were able to convince some of the other cast members to get in on the action: Travis Willingham lent his hardcore guttural screams joining Sam on “We All Rage,” Alanna Ubach added her soaring vocals to “Song For Osysa,” and Laura Bailey blew us away with her ethereal end-title rendition of “Makin’ My Way” in Ep. 7. We also were gifted the sweet vocal stylings of Ashley Johnson on her “Makin’ My Way” duet with Sam, and Aisling Franciosi added her magic to the raunchy “When The Bald Man Cries.”  And through it all, Neal kept on wowing us with his engaging, inventive score.”
