Another beautiful autumn day here in Michigan which means it is a perfect day for a Pop Culture convention. As I stated yesterday, Saturday was going to be crowded and that prediction was correct, the convention hall was full. In all fairness I have to say that I based my prediction on experience because Saturday is always busy at conventions.
Saturday is also when the cosplayers come out in full force (no pun intended Star Wars fans). I have to say that even though I am passionate about all things geeky, I don’t think I have patience to build these elaborate outfits. Just for a moment forget about putting a costume together which I couldn’t imagine but what about lugging around all the props and pieces go with the character. It has to get tiring. Speaking of carrying things around, there was one Captain America who let me hold his shield and I am sure that his arm will take a couple of days to recover, despite the fact he said, “I can do this all day!” The costumes really ran the gamut, ranging from someone walking around in a Snorlax onesie to the sparkliest Mandalorian I have ever seen.
The larger crowd also means that the lines to meet the celebrities quadrupled from Friday. Sadly because of the longer lines I wasn’t able snap as many guest shots as I would have liked. The ones I was able to get included, Walter Koenig, Jimmy Hart, Danhausen, T.C. Carson, Lorraine Bracco and Renae Jacobs. I appreciate how helpful the staff at Motor City Comic Con was in helping me acquire the shots I needed. I am thinking next year I will request interviews that way it might be easier to snap a pic or two.
Speaking of next year, it sounds like there will be both a spring and an autumn convention again. It is too soon to announce guests so keep checking the Motor City site as well as our website and our social media.
