E.V.A.: Motor City Comic Con Day One…Just Getting Warmed Up!

I am glad that Motor City Comic Con is in November. The spring is a great time for cons but let’s face it Courtney’s wedding got in the way last May so having a con in the fall is like redemption. I love coming to cons, not just to see the stars and the cosplayers but to reconnect with people that I have met at previous events. It works like a group therapy session. “Hello. My name is James and I am a total nerd.

Day one at Motor City was pretty low key. I get it, Friday isn’t the main day but it was great for getting through the lines to meet the stars and get some shopping done. I am glad that I showed up today because I got to make some great connections. One of these connections was with a company that is stepping up the 1/12th scale action figure game with fantasy figures that blow every other figure out of the water. The company is called Savage Crucible that is making the most incredible figures. These are highly poseable and are ridiculously affordable with a basic figure under 20 dollars. Sign me up for these babies because they are perfect for action figure photography. Check them out for yourself. There are lizards, dwarves, barbarians and water creatures. https://www.savagecrucible.com/#/ These are a must for any figure collector.

We also took a stroll down artist alley where we got to check out some outstanding art. We did meet a creator whose book is based on historical events. The trilogy is about a Korean naval commander who fought against a Japanese invasion in the late 16th century. Check out the website for the book here https://www.yisoonshin.com/ This is great way to learn history and an ideal way to get young readers interested. I don’t know how historically accurate the story is, but it could be a stepping stone into learning the facts behind the real events.

As for the stars that were here today were Ralph Macchio, Peter Weller, William Zabka, Martin Kove and a few others. We have some photos with more coming tomorrow. I love how excited fans get when they meet their favorite personalities. Even though I have been doing this close to 15 years I still get star-struck over certain people. I may be a professional but I am still a geek.

There were some great cosplays wandering around including a child dressed as “The Child” aka Grogu, an amazing Nightcrawler, multiple members of the 501st and a bride of Frankenstein.  Tomorrow will be a day of insanity because let’s face it; Saturday is usually the busiest day.

Motor City Comic Con runs until Sunday, so if you are in the area stop in for a fun day for kids of all ages. To see the guest list go to the Motor City Comic Con website to learn more.
