Soundwaves: Milan Records releases the Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Original Game Score and Preorder for Vinyl Album with music by Ludvig Forssell

Milan Records today releases DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH (ORIGINAL VIDEO GAME SCORE) featuring music by acclaimed composer LUDVIG FORSSELL for HIDEO KOJIMA’s eagerly awaited sequel to 2019’s critically acclaimed title DEATH STRANDING. Returning to the universe of DEATH STRANDING, Forssell masterfully builds upon the game’s original soundscape to match the ambitious scope of its sequel. From dark, synthetic drones to anthemic movements, the music is once again an intrinsic part of the immersive gameplay, retaining its signature sound while charting a new path to further explore the game’s themes of connection, isolation and survival – listen here. Released exclusively on PlayStation® 5, DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH is now available in standard and limited collector’s editions now at the link here.

In addition to today’s digital release, the album’s vinyl edition is now available to preorder through Mondo. Pressed on 3x 140 gram Mondo Exclusive vinyl, this triple LP is housed in a tri fold jacket featuring original artwork by Entei Ryu with embossed inner gatefold lyrics and a transparent vellum belly band.

Of the score, composer LUDVIG FORSSELL says, “After almost 6 years since the first game and 3 years of writing, it is insanely exciting to finally have people get to experience the music of DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH.  As with the previous title, this time around I had the opportunity to further explore the game’s theme of connection, only this time, from the opposite direction. Rather than blindly following an ideal, the music now asks questions like ‘should we have connected?’ and ‘to what end?’. This project stands on the shoulders of its predecessor and reaches farther and wider with new terrain to tread. I am very proud of what we’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see people interact with the game alongside the soundtrack!”

ABOUT LUDVIG FORSSELL

Ludvig Forssell is a composer known for building rich, immersive sound worlds — especially through his long-running collaboration with acclaimed game director Hideo Kojima. His work on Death Stranding helped define the game’s distinct tone, blending haunting textures with emotional depth. The 2019 release became a critical and cultural hit, earning Forssell multiple awards and BAFTA nominations for both Best Music and Best Audio. As the former in-house composer and audio director at Kojima Productions, he played a key role in shaping the sound of the studio’s projects — a partnership that continues with the highly anticipated Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, released on June 26.

Forssell’s most recent film score can be heard in Boy Kills World, the Lionsgate action thriller starring Bill Skarsgård as a deaf protagonist navigating a hyper-stylized world. His inventive score amplifies the film’s chaotic energy and darkly comic tone.

Earlier in his career, Forssell was a lead composer at Konami, where he scored Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which The Guardian hailed as “the greatest stealth game ever made.” Raised in Umeå, Sweden, Forssell started writing music young and developed a deep love for Japanese pop culture. After moving to Tokyo to study game scoring, he quickly found his footing. Whether working in games or film, Forssell approaches each project as a creative challenge. “Writing music is never a given,” he says. “The fun part is solving the puzzle.”
