WaterTower Music is proud to announce
the release of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Season 1 (Soundtrack from the HBO® Original Series) with music by composer Dan Romer. The soundtrack is available now on all major digital platforms.
Set in the world of Game of Thrones, the HBO® Original series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire, Egg, on a journey across Westeros nearly a century before the events of Game of Thrones. Where kings and councils shape the realm from castle walls, this story unfolds on dusty roads, in village squares, and among common folk.
Romer’s score reflects that shift in perspective, moving away from the monumental grandeur traditionally associated with Westeros and toward something more intimate, grounded, and human.
Dan Romer notes, “Game of Thrones has a vast, monumental sonic identity — regal, sweeping, and steeped in royalty. With Dunk & Egg, we aimed for something smaller and more grounded — grittier and closer to the lives of ordinary people. This story follows a knight with no lineage and no political power, so we leaned into a working-class, almost punk-rock sensibility. Small ensembles of guitars, fiddles, and whistling helped create a sound that feels intimate and homespun.
We also explored a subtle western influence — not something that sounded overtly western, but carried its spirit through the overlap between those worlds. The goal was a score that could plausibly exist in both Westeros and the wild west: scaled down, road-worn rather than castle-bound.
It was an absolute honor to collaborate with Ira and the entire team on this magnificent series.”
Blending acoustic textures, folk instrumentation, and restrained orchestration, Romer crafts a score that captures both the quiet humanity and the adventurous spirit of Dunk and Egg’s journey — expanding the musical world of Westeros while forging a distinct sonic identity of its own.
