Lakeshore Records releases Dark
Winds: Seasons 1-4 (Original Series Soundtrack) digitally today April 3, featuring music by composers Kevin Kiner, Sean Kiner and Deana Kiner, AKA Kiner Music. Known for their work together creating the scores for several series within the Star Wars universe (Ashoka, The Clone Wars), the Kiners create vividly organic soundscapes that enhance the dramatic lives of the characters through four seasons of the noir thriller based on the Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman. The series created by Graham Roland is airing now on AMC and AMC+.
Season 4 follows Lt. Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon), Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon), and Sgt. Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten) investigating the disappearance of Navajo teen Billie Tsosie, leading them from the reservation to 1970s Los Angeles. The team chases a ruthless, obsessive assassin, Irene Vaggan, who is linked to organized crime.
The Kiners note: “Developing the sound of this score has its foundation simply in the name of the show. It has since grown with each of the characters as they grapple with their mental traumas in a world that is hostile to their culture. The show’s sound is constantly evolving in tandem with the story, and in order to do that we have experimented with a multitude of organic and synthetic instruments. We take the themes and subject matter of the show very seriously, and so we are always conscious of how our music will frame these things. We think this extra layer of consideration is critical to the thematic cohesion of the show, and we’re lucky to have such thoughtful collaborators in the show’s leadership to guide us. We’re extremely grateful to be a part of it.”
